Got this unbidden in my e-mail this morning. It's a Repiglican response to the story that broke last week about
Iran endorsing Bush in the US presidential election.
There has been a lot of internet talk about this Iranian endorsement.
First of all...the Bushies denounce it.
Reasons besides the one's given by the Iranian minister.
1. Iraq has always been a hated enemy of Iran. Seeing Saddam toppled was good news to them. The Sunni & Baathists have been violently oppressive to the majority Shia (which is what the vast majority of Iranians are)
2. Reverse psychology...the Iranians know that the Kerry campaign will use this endorsement as a vote getter issue against Bush. If we happen to pull out of Iraq...it'll probably be Iranian (Shia) insurgents that take over Iraq. Which candidate is most likely to pull out?
3. Iran would like to normalize their relations w/ the US. The Dems are big on human rights issues and Iran is almost as dogmatic as the Taliban...so the "feel good" Dems won't negotiate. (like they would've ever done anything about it). The Bushies don't care about that human rights shit...they just want rogue nations to toe the line.
As you can tell this is a pretty incoherent rant. But it is telling that this particular Bush-supporter follows the reactionary line of might is right with the line "...Bushies don't care about that human rights shit...", and truly they don't, as witnessed by the Patriot Act, Camp X-ray and Abu Graib among others abuses.
Even if Kerry wins this election there is still a lot of work to do. We are up against a fascist mind-set that will take years to undo. Just because Dubya goes away doesn't mean these guys will go away.
