All this movement needed was an anthem, it is Eminem's Mosh the Vote
Edited on Tue Oct-26-04 03:31 PM by Melodybe
The is no way I could love Eminem any more, than I do right now.

I shake when I hear this song it is so powerful, it you don't like Eminem fine, but this is the exact song that I needed. He wrote that song for us, and even if you hate rap he is empowering millions for the cause.

Thank you Marshall!

There are so many things in this video that are important and symbolic and stregthening.

I love love love him. He has cemented his place in history as far I am concerned. He was going to be remembered anyway but he just stamped his face on the moment and will now be remembered for the next hundred years.

I know some here don't believe it, but this song IS that powerful. This video IS that powerful.

Now we just have to get every person under thirty to watch it.

God Bless Marshall Mathers he is helping to save the world, and he wrote a song to inspire us to join up.

If you see storms of black hoddies, do not be afraid we just want to vote.

I cannot say enough and the words I am typing now do not do justice to the beautiful empowerment I feel in my heart.

This is just another nail in the coffin of Bushco.

1. Every person under thirty?
Kiddo -- I'm 48 and it hit ME between the eyes like a baseball bat.
John
Try "get every person PERIOD" to watch it.

8. I stand corrected, get everyone to watch this.
I love that you are 48 and this song is speaking to you.

Eminem is sticking it to the man, I am so proud that so many people that I already loved and respected are out there doing what they can.

I am still retarded with awe over this video.

9. I'm 48 as well, "kiddo"...
and I've been listening to various forms of "rap" since the seventies, including Gil Scott Heron, who wrote such timeless gems such as "The Revolution Will Not Be Televised", "ReRon", and "Winter In America".

Mathers just took his rightfull place amongst his peers in hip hop history.

16. I love Gil Scott Heron, "whitey's on the moon" is also good.

I had never heard of him until a few years ago and apparently he has quite the underground following.

20 years later, Eminem is making history for him.

2. What he did was interesting, from a marketing perspective.
Because Mathers has always had a very sharp eye for marketing himself, his image, and his persona. By attaching the "armie of black hoodies" image to voting Bush out of office, he has created a fashion/culture referencial tie-in. From a marketing perspective, that's a great way to mobilize the consumption-based masses. Hopefully, we will see as many new voters as we see sales of plain black hoodies increase.

I vaguely wish this thing had come out earlier, since voting registration is already closed in many states. But anything that makes voting look cool, hip, or even rebelious is in our favor right now.

7. You're right....earlier would have been better.
Voter registration has long been closed here in darkest Mississippi, but better late than never, I suppose.

11. Apparently we can thank Micheal Jackson for its late release
Eminem slams him on his new cd, he totally calls MJ out for being the disgusting child molester he is.

Micheal had lawyers on Eminem and he rushed this video, since the album had to wait.

I think it came at the perfect time.

13. I'll take the anthem and hold the cynicism, thank you.
Yes, I'm sure this was a conscious marketing ploy to boost the market for black hooded sweatshirts.

:eyes:

Do note, however, that after his Slim Shady video, in which he was surrounded by Eminem lookalikes, you didn't see a wave of nimrods making themselves over to look like Slim Shady. Give the kids who listen to this stuff a little more credit than that.

As far as latching onto a symbol to let folks know "who" you are, it's been done from time immemorial. Think of the York and Lancastrian red and white roses. Many, many more examples--and I doubt that even back then it was a marketing ploy to prop up the English rose market.

15. Oh, I don't think Mathers was actually trying to sell hoodies.
I just see it as an unfortunate offshoot of our consumer culture. But "branding" it as an army of black hoodies was also very, VERY effective to shore up his message, so I very much approve of the image!

From your fellow resident of Mississippi! I'm glad you're fired up...make sure your young friends are, too. Wouldn't it be NICE if Mississippi should be closer than everyone thinks? (P.S. - I'm too OLD to appreciate Eminem, but I watched the video & I think it's powerful, too.)

This is still the same creepy loser who wrote dozens of hateful misogynistic tunes in his career. While I applaude this particular song, I still find him repulsive.

Edited on Tue Oct-26-04 03:27 PM by Melodybe
get it. You are missing out, Eminem's music reaches so many people, b/c he is one of the few white musical performers that has literally come from nothing and worked his way to the top. He is so loved because he is one of the few musicians in the business that is able to blend pain, anger, passion, and disillusionment into a 4 minute song.

He speaks to so many myself included, sorry that you don't understand.

You should listen to "I am, Whatever you say I am", I think he does a great job dealing with his own perception and image.

22. My surrounding?
What's that have to do with appreciating a guy who hates women and hates gays?

Look it's admirable that he sees Bush for what he is, that doesn't change the fact that he's a jackass.

Reminds me of that old Clash song, White Man in Hammersmith Palais

"All over people changing their votes
Along with their overcoats
If Adolf Hitler flew in today
They'd send a limousine anyway
"

I'm not accusing anybody of changing their votes, but I think we are a little to eager to accept anybody who criticizes President Bush.

Type in Misogony and Eminem in Google and see what pops out.

8 Reasons Eminem's Popularity is a Disaster for Women - http://www.jacksonkatz.com/eminem2.html

Misogynist, homophobe... hero - http://observer.guardian.co.uk/review/story/0,6903,333436,00.html

If that's a guy you feel comfortable getting in bed with, that's fine, but I don't.

To a degree....cripes people were singing Pat Robertson's praises!

And Howard before he read Franken's book.

Now Eminem.

Frankly I liked Howard and Eminem before any of this so it doesn't really matter to me. But I hear what you're saying.

If anything, this is more proof that there's a good marketplace for anti-Bush sentiment.

24. I was never offended
Talking about the insanity that goes on in EVERY person's mind at varying moments takes guts. That's what he did and it's too bad people just can't get the difference between expressing the darkest parts of human nature in order to be able to talk about it; and actually acvocating any particular feeling towards anybody.

12. POWER IN NUMBERS is the message
Lots of people think "what's one vote? what does it matter?" and Eminem has made this powerful video showing EXACTLY how one vote, coupled with another vote, coupled with another and another and another can all add up to...power in numbers.

Damn, that's brilliant!

Count me in as another oldster who will be wearing a black hoodie on 11/2.

27. Okay, this is a brilliant video BUT
What's with all this crotch grabbing? Has the boy got crabs, or is he a compulsive wanker or what? Seriously, the video blows me away, but at times it reminds me of Michael Jackson grabbing his crotch in 1985 when music was still on MTV.

30. Eminem barely qualifies as a musician.
His entire career is based on a solipsistic urge to create a persona for himself; he's like the David Bowie of hiphop, with all the attendant faults that label brings with it: media manipulation disguised as talent, controversy-generating masquerading as "rocking." He can occasionally string a few clever words together, but shit, so could thousands of other less famous rappers and musicians.

His true medium is his celebrity; his true talent is his ability to PR for himself. There are literally thousands of more worthy musicians right now who'll never ever get a chance at making it big because of the gigantic money push at the big record companys, foisting upon us no-talent performance artists diguised as "musicians" like Eminem.

Even the most clever of his rhymes are all about "ME ME ME!!!" Strip away the media persona and the eagerness of the music press to chase after the latest "controversy" at the expense of true musicality, and you basically have some vaguely unpleasant Taco Bell-employee reject with a whiny voice talking about himself....and talking. And talking. And talking.....and talking. Oh, and lame sampling in the background. Would I pay 16.99 for a CD of this shit? Not on your life.

And hey, Melodybe, I'll save you the trouble:

"Random, you just don't get it, blah blah blah......."

Great, so he's on our side....yay. Can we now get back to playing some actual music?

33. Boots Riley has been writing "anthems" for years now.....
But he's black and therefore "dangerous." But now Eminem puts out a single "political" song and all of a sudden he's the new fucking messiah. I ain't buying it.

Funny how the controversy always centers around Eminem's words, but his ability to rhyme or do anything musically is never called into question.
