Enough with the stupid Coulter insults - please.
My skin is actually pretty thick. But I know some transgendered folks who live their lives pretty close to the edge. Many of these people have been demeaned and berated their whole lives for not fitting into our rigid male and female gender roles. Some have lost close friends and family members and even careers just because they decided to tell the truth - to let others know.

These are some of the nicest folks I know. They would never intentionally hurt anyone - and they'd even go out of their way to avoid that, which has always seemed like a pretty liberal thing to do.

Your "joke" implies that being transgendered is a despicable thing - ugly enough that you use it to insult the worst people you know - like Ann Coulter.

It bothers me when defenseless people are hurt, especially when it could easily be avoided. I can't actually do anything about it - other than make sure you know that you are doing a hateful thing and that your motive does not acquit you of the side effects. So, that's what I'm doing in this post.

I'm sure you can come up with some other way to say how much you don't like Ann Coulter, and she probably deserves it, but if you choose to use gender identity as part of your insult, again - you can expect to hear from me, again.

1. I agree
There's plenty to insult Coulter about. I've always been uncomfortable with the trans gender insults.

2. Why does this remind me of the Mary Cheney flap?
Just because it's constantly pointed out that Ann Coulter is a TRANSSEXUAL, doesn't mean anyone is making fun of her for it. Its just a cold, hard fact, like Mary Cheney being a lesbian who partakes in lesbian activities.

Also, your sexism against the uni-gendered community is very apparent when you say that "These are some of the nicest folks I know".

Can I still be "nice" in your world? I would hope that you'd respect me since I have a penis and nothing more. Is that too much to ask?

3. I'm sorry you're upset
I'm not one of those people who your post is aimed at, but I do feel that people have a right to express their opinion. I have absolutely nothing against transgender folks, but I really don't like Ann the Man. ;-)

5. It's not an insult to transgenders, it's an insult to Ann Coulter b/c...
Ann Coulter is the kind of person who would probably keel over and die if she knew the whole world though she was transgender.

It's only funny to say because she prides herself on being the sexpot of the GOP, and wouldn't be able to handle such an insult - it's not meant to demean transgenders at all.

Kinda like how bringing up Mary Cheney isn't a big deal to US, but to THEM it is.

9. Sexpot of the GOP?
"Ann Coulter is the kind of person who would probably keel over and die if she knew the whole world though she was transgender.

Why would anyone keel over and die at the thought that others might think they were transgender? Unless you believed that was something that would make you keel over and die.

She thinks she's the sexpot of the GOP?

I've never heard that. She's even jokes about how she never gets any dates.

I'd bet that if she becomes aware that DU members have been ranting for months about her being a man in disguise, she'd probably get a kick out of it and use that in her interviews to show how quickly liberals will insult minorities if it helps us make a point.

Ann makes a lot of money attacking liberals. That's her job in life. When you take her seriously, she makes more money. GOPers will pay her more to talk at their functions - because they know she's getting to us - and in your case, making us look foolish.

15. Okay, I guess I wasn't clear enough...
"Why would anyone keel over and die at the thought that others might think they were transgender? Unless you believed that was something that would make you keel over and die."

*sigh* Let me try this once more. NO. *I* do not think transgenders are a big deal. I DO NOT HAVE A PROBLEM WITH TRANSGENDERS. But do you think Ann COulter does? Of course! We say it because SHE, ANN COULTER, would keel over and die of embarassment if she thought people thought that about her. It's HER with the problem, not us.

"She thinks she's the sexpot of the GOP? I've never heard that. She's even jokes about how she never gets any dates."

Umm...do you think the fact that she always wears a little black dress is a coincidence? The GOP markets her as such and it's a role she thinks she fills quite well.

"Ann makes a lot of money attacking liberals. That's her job in life. When you take her seriously, she makes more money. GOPers will pay her more to talk at their functions - because they know she's getting to us - and in your case, making us look foolish."

Excuse me but isn't the fact that we're NOT taking her seriously the reason you're all lathered up? We make jokes about her because she's an idiot. She's an anorexic little she-devil and no one on this board takes a thing she spews seriously. If we did take it seriously we'd be Freepers.

6. I don't think she is properly transgendered anyway.
The version of the story I have been told is that she was born with "indeterminate" gender, and was gender-assigned surgically as an infant. Of course, she had no volition whatsoever in this.

I think is is simply enough to make fun of her anorexic, ugly carcass.

. . you think she's an ugly hate-filled skank. I definitely agree that she is hate-filled and deserved to be condemned for that. I'm not sure what a skank is.

Although, "ugly" is a bit inconsiderate. It reveals a mindset that accepts the idea that people are good or bad based on their visible features.

You can put skin color, hair style, ragged clothing, all kinds of appearance factors in there. And they all justify discrimination, separation and an "I'm good - you're bad" attitude, based on outward appearance - rather than the quality of someone's ideas and character.

Those outward appearance factors are the kind of things that conservatives use to gain power over others. Liberals have usually fought against that.

I think you should examine your motives.

Actually, it just means she's ugly, as in not attractive to many of us. There's no kind of underhanded meaning, just means she's unattractive for one reason or another. Doesn't have to mean she's less of a person or a "good/ba" attitude, just means she's ugly *shrug*

IMHO, not trying to be nasty here at all, but I think perhaps you should just chill a little about being so PC.

12. It's not up to you to decide if it is insulting.
It is up to the person who is insulted.

If a black person says they are insulted by the word "negro" because it is close to "nigger" then I won't use it - even if I intended no insult by it. If I continue to use it after I've been informed - then either I don't care if they think I'm insulting them or I intend to insult them. If I don't care what they think, then that is a form of insult in itself.

I find it insulting that you would choose as the greatest possible insult, the implication that she is transgendered.

Like I say - continue if you wish. And I'll continue to tell you how insulting it is.

Edited on Tue Oct-26-04 07:16 PM by bo44
In an effort to not insult a rethug by referencing them to another human identity I have taken to calling them shit stains or dookie stains. As in, "I know you shame you got dookie stains." I would like to henceforth refer to Ann as that long piece of charmin that sticks to your shoe and which you do not notice until you are in wide public view.
