Great News! My nephew is home from Iraq!!!! |
|
He is a Navy Seabee and has been there for 7 months. My sister flew out to CA to greet her little boy and she is so happy. Our whole family is so relieved.
The bad news is he informed us that he has already been scheduled to go back this coming summer.
Our joy is tainted. I hate bush and his administration!

6. yes, that will be great |
|
as a Seabee -(CB, Construction Battalion) my nephew's job is to build/rebuild so even with President Kerry in office I feel his duties will still be needed.
At least with Kerry the country may become more stable and therefore safer for our troops.
I will just keep looking on the bright side.
Thanks to everyone for all of your kind thoughts.

Truly glad to hear he made it back safely. As to his going back in the summer - I'm sorry that he is being made to return. No one should have to serve multiple tours in the middle east. I also wonder have you ever asked him why he joined the military in the first place . Is he proud of his service to his country or is he feeling betrayed and put-upon?

12. He is proud of his service |
|
because I know he feels he is doing good by helping rebuild the country (that we tore apart). He has been in the Navy for four years and it is all he ever wanted to do. He was in ROTC in high school, always patriotic, always wanting to serve his country.
My father (his grandfather) is a retired Naval Officer so my family has strong ties to the military. My niece (from my other sister) is also in the Navy, she is stationed on a ship in Norfolk and her brother was a Marine. He got out a few years ago so we do worry he may be called back in.
My family members are very staunch democrats but I really do not know how this nephew feels. We do not talk anti-war to him because we support him 100% and do not ever want him to feel bad of course. As Kerry says, seperate the war from the warrior. Now that he is home and once he gets settled, I do plan on asking him how he feels about the war and who he plans on voting for.
I know my niece on the ship in Norfolk is voting Kerry, she and many shipmates do not like bush - they think he is a phony CiC.

Yeah, if they steal their way in again, many of us with older teens are going to be looking to go that way. My 17 year old daughter is being contacted by all the differing branches of the military (she hates it, hates Chimp Co. Inc.). We will not allow her to become cannon fodder for chimp's folly. No way! I was young in the `60s, but I remember `nam well ... went to many a cousin's funeral, dealt with many aunts/uncles that had their lives torn apart, have a bro with PTSD, and we're repeating it all over again. We have to stop this madness.
