Are the looted explosives in Iraq proof that Bush knew all along that there weren't any actually weapons of mass destruction?
The reason the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) was involved with the inspections of this cache of explosives was because they had a duel use potential - these materials could have a nuclear weapons use, besides other conventional uses. As the
Boston Globe timeline yesterday demonstrated, the IAEA confirmed these explosives under seal during the UN weapons inspection process, before the invasion, in late 2002 and early 2003.
Bush's causus belli for attacking and invading Iraq was Saddam's weapons of mass destruction. Remember Bush and company conveyed a great urgency that we had to go get them and destroy them and their evil possessor before they fell into the hands of America-hating terrorists. So how in all the world did a potential component of a nuclear weapon get missed in at least one of the top priority missions of the invading army? How could the commander-in-chief and his top lieutenants not have their CIA-provided check list of WMDs ready to be validate by whatever weapons and components were found, the ultimate proof justifying their call to arms? And yet this one dangerous stash of explosives, that actually had something to do with the non-existent weapons of mass destruction, was over looked, allowing the looting to happen!
It simply defies explanation ... unless Bush and the Pentagon brass were and are just so incompetent that we are in far more serious danger than we can even possibly imagine
right now. Or ... they knew there weren't actual WMD in Iraq in the first place and the 'search' was just a charade - so securing this 780 tons of super explosives was just not that important.
There is not a political explanation of this scandal getting Bush off the hook that can pass the jaw-dropper test ... which is probably why he has so far not said a word about this latest Iraq fiasco.
