Wouldn't a real president. address the nation about this?
This is a response to a post that sank, but I think it's important.

Given what's going on in our nation, wouldn't a genuine U.S. President, in a national address, tell the nation that our vote is sacred and that anybody interfering with that right - regardless of political affiliation - will be brought to justice?

Wouldn't a real president address the threat to democracy head on?

Shouldn't the president be spearheading a national campaign to make sure that each American who is registered to vote gets to vote unimpeded?

1. Yes, but we don't have a real president.
Anyhow, if more people vote, Democrats win.

2. What is a *real* president?
There have always been interference at the polls throughout American history through both Democratic and Republican administrations in this country.

If we mean a president who does exactly as you described, then I can't think off the top of my head any recent ones. Perhaps the last one who *truly* made it a point was Lyndon B. Johnson when he signed the Civil Rights Act of 1964 and said on television, "We shall overcome."

4. A real president...
..you know, somebody who actually leads instead of acts, a person who provides some firm moral imperative for the nation instead of cover-ups, misdirection, and secrecy.

Saying that there has always been interference at the polls ignores that four years ago so many voters were disenfranchised that the people's will wasn't accomplished and according to reports the acts of electoral interference and suppression are increasing.

Even if the electoral monkey-business this year is business as usual, polls show that our nation's citizens are uneasy about their vote counting. Even if the concerned citizens are mistaken (and I don't think they are) a real president would make sure to address our concerns before they get out of hand.

3. Yes!
Good point -- we've seen so much in-your-face corruption in the last 4 years that the most obvious points seem to slip away. Thanks for reminding us how an ethical, responsible president would be handling this outrageous situation.

6. Maybe in a real democracy
A real president would also move heaven and earth to find out exactly what happened on 911, and why it happened. That is, unless you had something to do with it, in which case you'd stonewall and obstruct every real attempt to find the truth.

8. A president who loved America and what it stood for...
would address the nation and make an unequivocal statement that every citizen registered to vote will be allowed to vote and have his or her vote counted--period. He would firmly state his awareness that there are people planning to disenfranchise some voters on his behalf and that he wants it stopped immediately.
But that isn't going to happen with this "president".

9. I'll follow the crowd here & repeat that we don't have a "real" president.
Yes, there have been problems with voting in the past. But this bozo achieved his office because of a crooked election in his brother's state. (And a corrupt Supreme Court.)

Why should he change a thing?
