Just got a call from an Australian in Sydney |
|
wanting me to pass on advice to the Kerry campaign. He says that Kerry should say that Bush is an illiberal, and reinforce the idea that many of our best policies come from liberals.
What is interesting about this, is not the advice itself, but the fact that Australian citizens are so desperate for Bush* to loose that they are passing on campaign advice. The world has never in my lifetime been so concerned about a US election, and they have never so ovewhelmingly been against the current administration.
So whether illiberal will make the difference in the US election or not; the fact remains, that the world is ready for change.

1. There was a story on one of the news channels about this today. |
|
The entire world is very consumed by this election because whoever wins will have such a HUGE effect on the rest of the world too. Bush has certainly demonstrated that.

I just had a friend come back from Amsterdam, also filled with advice on how Kerry should go about defeating Bush. Worldwide phenomenon.

7. It's begining to look as if non-US citizens |
|
might outnumber US citizens at Democrats Abroad election watch events. That is the feedback I'm getting anyway. I've never seen anything like it. If only the world could vote, this would be a huge landside.

3. I think they have hit on something that has been missing. And that is |
|
reminding the country about what it was like under the last Democratic administration and reminding them that all those programs with rights for workers, the needy, the elderly, etc. were all Democratic programs, including Vet education aid, the G.I. Bill of Rights, etc. Republicans have done only four things: given huge tax breaks to corporations and wealthy, started wars, started economic depressions, grown the Federal government (despite claims to be against "big government" Federal roles increased under REagan, Bush I, and Bush II. Clinton actually reduced the Federal payrolls by over 200,000 employees.

4. They understand what is at stake a lot more than many of our |
|
own people do. We are becoming a rogue nation under Bush's watch, and no one will be able to trust us as long as he remains in power. For the US voter to return him to office will lose us the standing in the world we have experienced since the Second World War.
It is really that serious.

5. I like to call them "regressives"... |
|
It has a nice ring to it, and it encapsulates their ideology perfectly:"Moving forward to the 19th century!"
