1. Be Strong.. Remember you have friends
Sometimes old GOP folks get all emotional about the GOP and they can't see the forest for the trees..

Remember that they are sending their son to Iraq and they probably need to feel like this Iraq thing is a good and right thing for their own sanity..so don't be surprised if they get all patriotic and emotional on you..

We will still be here for you when you get back!

3. thank you
that does mean something to me

on a lighter note: isn't it funny that * is campaigning in such a small town? probably great for security-- 2000 people, 8000 guns.

4. He's your father and he's scared for his son.
Which, for some, translates into supporting the President or whoever is the most warlike.

Try and re-frame the argument if you can. But if not...

I hope your brother returns from his journey.

5. Was he cheering on the noxious weed?
I wonder if your dad was going to support the shrub, or to see just what an asshole he really is.

On another note:

The U.S.A. is a noxious weed district; we must remove the shrub.

6. Remind him that ....
John Eisenhower (Ike's son and a retired Brigadier General), William Milliken (former Republican Governor of Michigan for 14 years), and Lincoln Chafee (Republican Senator) have all announced they won't vote for Bush. Both Eisenhower and Milliken are supporting Kerry.

7. I see it everywhere...like it was said up above...
parents of kids going to Iraq seem to feel the need to vote for Bush, to prove to themselves that their kid has to go, and that the sacrifice is not being made for nothing.

Hang in there! You have friends and support here! DUers here have been more supportive of my goals and efforts than certain family members. That's for sure!

And tell your family - everyone has their own style - in terms of supporting the nation!
