Is it my imagination or was "Evangelism" tonight's favorite news topic? |
|
Edited on Wed Oct-27-04 12:11 AM by feistydem
I kept flipping channels and it seemed like everyone was talking about the growing Evangelical Christian vote on both cable and network news shows. Is it really that huge or are they just making crap up to freak us out?
Did anyone else notice this tonight?

The Bible Bangers are already on board for *. Other than an ineffective distraction from the vanishing Iraqi explosives, I don't know what they're hoping to accomplish with it.

What the media's showing is the Evangelical Christians in total. The konservative fundies are a subset of EC's. The way it's being presented implies that everyone who's an EC is automatically a konservative repug. I belong to the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America. I'm an Evangelical Christian. What's being done is more rightwing slight of hand. Heck, plenty of Baptists, Southern or not are NOT konservative in any means. Some are quite Liberal. Same with almost any other denomination you can name. Evangelical Christian simply means that the church derives its teachings on the Gospels. It does not in any shape of the word mean that you're a hard-core repug.

4. Jimmy Carter's Baptist church pulled out of the S. Baptist Convention due |
|
to that national's organization's stance on subjugating women. I like Carter's liberal Baptist beliefs in helping his fellow man.
I think charismatic/holiness/pentecostal should be used instead of evangelical. The Evangelical and Reformed Lutherans merged with the United Church of Christ (Barry Lynn's church) probably the most liberal sect along with the Unitarians and Disciples of Christ.
