Anyone in Iraq who allies himself too closely with the U.S. is setting
himself up for disappointment like many of our previous "allies". Look at what happened to to the Hmong and the Montagnards in Vietnam and Laos. They were abandoned when our socalled Vietnamization program collapsed and Kissinger ( as always) walked out on them. Similarly, the Kurds who were encouraged by the first Bush to rise up against Saddam were left to be slaughtered not just by Saddam but also by the Turks when Bush I pulled out after the first Gulf War.Now as the second Bush keeps making noises about turning over the war to Iraqis like Allawi who cannot even venture out without their American bodyguards, I can foresee another helicopter taking off from one the rooftops of Saddam's previous palaces leaving behind the Iraqis who placed their faith on us.

History does keep repeating itself. And didn't Bush II claim he was a history major?

1. Good point

The shittes also rose up against Saddam after the Gulf War on Pappa Bush's promise of support. Many of them paid the price as well when we didn't provide any.

3. True

I'm just begining to see that is the fault that this country has. Dunno why I never thought about it before but god, we think one way for 4 years..8 tops. Then a new leader comes along who hopefully feels the same way and continues it for another 4 years hopefully 8. If not then there's a guy from the exact opposite side of the spectrum who turns things all around and volla same country but new views on how things should be done in the world.
