3 MAJOR news stories buried on page 18 of the WP. Disgusting! |
|
http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/world/?nav%3Dleft&sub=AR In The News Allawi Accuses Foreign Troops Of Negligence In Massacre: Killing of Guardsmen Elicits Rare Criticism by Iraqi Leader (Post, Oct. 27, 2004)
78 Thai Muslims Die After Protest: Men Suffocated Or Were Crushed In Army Trucks (Post, Oct. 27, 2004)
S. Korea Joins China in Criticizing U.S. on N. Korea (Post, Oct. 27, 200
Is it any wonder America remains so ignorant of what is going on in the world? And I have heard very little about any of these on the cable or network news.

Here is what is on the front page: "Outer Suburbs Job Boom", |
|
"Sharon Wins Gaza Vote" "Ads Aiming Straight for the Heart" (along with Bush photos) "Some Laborers Arrested in VA Face Deportation" "Electoral College Calculus"
How's that for keeping the public updated on "critical issues?"

3. hopefully Americans who don't want to be ignorant read past page one |
|
--that's what the whole paper is for. Additionally, I would posit that there is so much bad shit happening right now, it's something of a quandary for editors as to what merits page one placement. Editors argue all the time about it anyway.
TV news is mainly headlines anyway, and favor stories that have pictures.
I don't disagree with your main premise--that lately media outlets seem to be soft-pedaling things to curry favor--but...I'm just saying.

Not every story deserves to be on the first page.
Incidentally, here's what's on the first page of the WP.
Article on job growth in outer DC region vs. rest of country
Article on Sharon winning vote for Gaza Pullout
Article on Electoral College math for upcoming election
Article on independent groups running campaign ads
Article on illegal immigrants possibly being deported
Human interest article on Japanese seniors engaged in athletics
A mention of the Thai Muslim deaths was listed on the front page with the article location posted.

http://www.pnionline.com/dnblog/extra/archives/001136.htmlBuried in the Wash. Times: al-Qaeda wants Bush! The most pro-Bush (in Iraq --- JHB) , he said, are the foreign extremists. "They prefer Bush, because he's a provocative figure, and the more they can push people to the extreme, the better for their case."
Foreign extremists inside Iraq? Who might that be? Hmmm, could they possibly mean...al-Qaeda. You bet! So there you have it. America's most conservative newspaper says that the folks who killed nearly 3,000 Americans on 9/11 want four more years of Bush in office.See original thread in the Campaign Forum: http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=view_all&address=132x1184299
