Some group's trying to recall Viaraigosa
He's a liberal city councilman in L.A. (who could be a replacement for Feinstein in 06). They are upset because he's backing Kerry and planning to run for mayor next year. Clearly the Rethugs are total jerks.

Just saw it on L.A.'s NBC affiliate.

5. Republicans are the ones with the MONEY to start this shit
and the money to hire people to gather signatures..

McDonalds put up the money for prop72..to CANCEL an existing, but unenforced law we already have.

Can individuals who are already tapped out after running their campaign, compete with million/billionaires who don't like the way the election turned out??

7. well, they have an advantage

California is ~55% non-white now, but a lot of that population is under 18 and/or the adults don't do politics or vote at a rate comparable to whites. The California electorate is 65-70% white, the racism of the elder generation of white folks is horrible and overt and they just about all vote that way. The point of equal rates of voting/political participation is 10 years or more down the road.

This is a lot of why so much bullshit passes in referendums and such, e.g. public schools are persistently misfunded, and so on. Why Schwarzenegger got in. Why Boxer's reelections have never been quite safe but Feinstein's have gone well in an "overwhelmingly" Democratic state.

3. Apparently in CA, a democrat elected to anything is grounds for recall
and people are so ready to sign ANYTHING while exiting a Walmart, they can actually gather enough signatures..

Some "gatherers" during the recall run-up, said."Sign this for better schools"...no mention that it was actually the recall petition..

Watch for some really repugnant stuff to start happening here in CA if * sneaks in again..

The whole recall thing needs to be fixed...and fixed FAST while dems still control the legislature with a veto-proof margin.

Recalls should be reserved for occasions when the official has been convicted of a crime, or is mentally unfit.. THAT'S IT..

The "wrong" politcal party winning is NOT a reason.

4. yeah, it's a sabotage effort

Once attractive and smart Latino politicians get into high offices in California it's game, set, and match over for the conservative white politician set. So they sabotage all the really promising ones to the extent possible.

8. Feinstein's not running for re-election
Or at least that's what she says when we call her and ask her to filibuster judges. It takes letters for virtually every Californian to get her to do the right thing and even then she often goes against the public's interests - as in her IWPR vote (where the calls were 95% against).
