Anyone see crazy Mel Gibson on GMA? |
|
He was ranting on and on against stem cell research. He is outraged that his tax dollars are being spent on stem cell research. I guess MY outrage that MY tax dollars are being spent on an immoral war is moot.
Diane Sawyer said that she assumed he would not be supporting John Kerry for president, and Mel started blathering something about how he hated both candidates, and then said something about lemonade that I didn't catch. He looked INSANE. Even Diane was unable to completely hide her shock at Mel's wild raving.

They weren't going to vote for Kerry anyway. Maybe his wild rantings will convince them to stay home as a protest against Shrub.
Added on edit: I wish we could hear more replies like yours about not wanting our tax dollars spent on an immoral war.

Very True. I did not know that Mel was an addict until I read an article about his friendship with Robert Downey Jr. Apparently, they are very, very good friends. Talk about an odd pair. From what I gather, Downey is quite Liberal and I think he even made a documentary about the 1992 Clinton campaign. It was on IFC not too long ago. I would love to be a fly on the wall for those two discussing politics, lol.

when those two did the talk show rounds to promote Air America? Whoo... they'd come bounding out from backstage, dressed in identical suits, and bounce (literally) off each other in a frenzied "hey Moe! hey Curley!" dynamic, paying scant attention to the interviewer or the audience. Hilarious stuff. And definitely fueled with generous snorts of blow.

That was a wretched film. When I first heard of Air America (the radio station)I was wondering why they named it after such a shitty movie:).
I am sure that between the both of them, they emptied out Columbia for that press junket. Downey is supposedly sober now, but based on recent Gibson apperances, I cannot say the same thing about him.

Some of you folks have forgotten the most important factor to remember when it comes to understanding history...only the winners get to write the histories.
The second most important factor IMHO, is the idea that history is NOT static...it changes over time as new information is uncovered.

Mel Gibson is the epitome of the male chauvinist pig. His gay-bashing in Braveheart didn't endear me to him either.
Lately he's just gone completely bananas. Apparently he really has a fascination with violent gay sex. Several reviewers noted that "The Passion" could be viewed as a sadistic homoerotic snuff film.

55. I was always uncomfortable with his holocaust denying pater -- |
|
fruit from the tree sort of thing -- but didn't see him as insane until I saw the interviews for 'Passion'. The movie I could ignore, like I ignore all religious movies, and if he'd just kept his mouth shut I could have watched him w/o worrying about it. Sure, 'Passion' was extreme, but to my mind all religion is extreme, not grounded in reality, and based on primitive nightmares.
His interviews, and his fixation on the crucifixion show he's no different than the 'penitents' you see during Holy Week in many latino cultures, lashing themselves to crosses for hours, whipping themselves, crawling on bleeding hands and knees for miles, trying to redeem themselves with blood.
Insane.

61. So? The Pope thinks Bush is the anti-Christ. Republicans are not moral. |
|
They just pretend to be moral. Mr. Gibson is a very smart man.
If you look at Mr. Gibson's movies you know that he is worried about the future of this planet. His movie Waterworld says that he doesn't buy into the oil companies and Republican line on greenhouse warning. His Mad Max movies say that he is worried about nuclear proliferation and a World War III. Conspirisy Theory listed off a long litany of conspirisies that many liberals have come up with to try to explain the corruption in our government.
He is obviously against Stem Cell research, or at least the public funding of it. And he is obviously personally opposed to abortion and gayness, but I don't think he sees those things as things that the government should be involved in.
Also, being a Catholic like Sen. Kerry, he may have a great sense of wanting to do good for the poor and folks who aren't as well off as he has worked to be.

30. As A Sufferer Of A Neurological Disease. . . |
|
. . .i will posit that he's just wearing his system out. Every day is a struggle to get through, no matter the stage of a neuro-illness. Some of my friends get it, my wife sure does, but for instance, my mom doesn't get it. I still work, i still play golf, i cut my own lawn, etc. She figures i must be ok. But, every day feels about 40 hours long for me. And, Fox's Parkinson's is more severe than my MS.
Just getting through a day is such labor that i think he's just burning out. Aging at a 5 to 1 rate, or some such thing. Getting old before his time because of the stress and effort of just getting through each day.
Just speculating. The Professor

60. You made an excellent point about the hypocrisy of anti-stem cell folk |
|
If the fundies were true "advocates" for the unborn, then why aren't they out there calling for the end of "in vitro" fertilization? And the science of unnaturally producing test tube babies, which inevitably ends up with at least a few unused embryos locked up in a cryo-tank, or just plain destroyed. I know of no law against the discarding of unused embryos from fertility clinics, and I don't see these religious nutcases pushing any similar legislation to be thrown onto the GOP platform.
And another thing, if they are so pro-life, why aren't they pushing bills relaxing the rules for adoption for singles or same-sex couples? Or how about giving tax break incentives for couples choosing to adopt versus dumping thousands of dollars on producing a child by the unnatural means of fertility science?!! Such go damn hypocrits they all are!!!
I am not against in virto fertilization, if you want to have a child composed of your genes with the help of a fertility clinic, thats absolutely fine by me. I'm a very firm believer in stem cell research and I just find it so hypocritical that religious fundamentalist can be so against stem-cell research, but turn a blind eye to the science of in-vitro fertilization, which btw is used almost always exclusively by the wealthy and elite.
And another thing, I gurantee you that when they do refine the usage of embryonic stem cells for, which will inevitably happen by labs overseas, the first ones to get in line and reap its benefits will be the dementia ridden, millionaire, Pat Robertson and Jerry Fawell, fundie lunatics with the boat loads of money they leeched over the years from the ignoramous followers who foolishly supported their retarded crusade without having half a brain to think for themselves.

I hate to say it, but Trey Parker and Matt Stone hit this one on the head. No exaggeration, virtually all true. It's a sad day in America when we get the radical social commentators actually being right on the money.

Was what a damn hypocrite he is, talking about ethics when he's made a fortune out of glorifying violence.
And yes, I'm outraged that my tax dollars go towards supporting a war I don't believe in. Certainly a far greater percentage of my tax dollars go to war than will EVER go to any lifesaving medical research.
He makes me sick.
