"A political candidate who jumps to conclusions without knowing the facts is not a person you want as commander in cheif."
The supreme irony of this statement was that it was uttered by George W. Bush as an attack on Senator John F. Kerry the week before the elections. The statement is so hypocrtically outrageous that one has trouble deciding whether to laugh, scream or cry.
The four years of Bush's appointed-against-the-popular-wll-of-the-people administration have been nothing but a long and detailed litany of examples of a commander in cheif not only jumping to conclusions, but one who is convinced that the facts don't matter. "I feel it in my gut" is the catch-phrase of this president, and it has led him to say things like "No, you're wrong, we won't have any casualties in Iraq" as he reportedly said in response to the concerns of fellow religious nut Pat Roberston (as side note is in order here: when Pat Robertson tells you that going into Iraq is a mistake, you know you're in real trouble.)
It has led him to say things like, "Saddam Hussien actively has weapons of mass destruction" and to stand behind his adminisrtation when it says things like "we know exactly where these weapons are without question" only a year after saying "Saddam does post any signficant weapons threat" and "he is sufficiently contained and not a danger to the United States" as both Colin Powell and Condelezza Rice said in 2001.
It has led him to ignore every bit of evidence and advice about the harm of an out of control deficit, the negative effect on the economy of outrageous and excessive tax cuts on the top 1%. It has lead him to go it alone in every major foreign policy decision made in the last four years, and to alienated the United States from everyone else in the world (except Iran, which stated recently that the re-election of Bush would be in Iran's best interests - so apparently, fanatical, fundamentalist despotic nations are "Bush Country," to paraphrase Jon Stewart)
The legacy of the Bush adminisrtation has been that of a man who believes that he doesn't need facts, and doesn't need evidence - doesn't need to listen to the opinions of other experts and professionals, doesn't need to seek a concensus. He only needs to believe in his heart that he is right, and then jump to the conclusions that his heart gives him.
The result has been over 1,100 US soliders dead, 10,000 US troops wounded, more people are living in poverty today than they were four years ago, the presidents first term will end with job loss, the first president to achieve that in over seventy years, the economy continues to stumble, the national debt and deficit is sky rocketing to all time highs, and even the wealthy are not confident in the long term economic future. Bush has managed to get the entire world united in its hatred of America while succesffully diving the American public. And the promise of compassionate government is no where to be found.
So I couldn't agree more with the President when he says, "A political candidate who jumps to conclusions without knowing the facts is not a person you want as commander in cheif." That's why I'm voting for John Kerry.
