Putin took them as a favour to * before the election, they planned it at the Ranch, remember?
Of course the Russians didn't take the weapons to Syria, what a stupid fucking idea. Why, exactly, would the Russians want to HELP Syria at this point in time? Why would they risk tons of explosives falling into the hands of terrorists who are big fans of he Chechnens?
Personally, I like the theory that Saddam let them go, planning to use them after he regained power after the War. Fine, he is insane, but would Syria really give weapons back to Iraq? me thinks not.

Why would Russia, or even Syria, need all this HMX and RDX? They could BUY the stuff on the open market, and they wouldn't be risking getting bombed by the US.
What would either nation have to gain by taking these explosives?
