A co-worker just edjumacated me
I was talking about how I can't wait until we're respected in the rest of the world again. She informed me that the whole world likes Bush but hates us because they're jealous. I asked, "England is jealous of us?" Yup. Everyone in the whole wide world is jealous.

She also tells me that Kerry plans on getting permission from every country in order to defend America. Wow! Boy, was I ever wrong on that one! She said Kerry is too scared to deal with terrorists. I told her that he headed his swift boat into attacks and that didn't sound like someone who gets scared easily. Well, well, well. It turns out that Kerry lied about that!

Everything I know is wrong! What am I going to do?

</sarcasm> for the sarcasm impaired. :hi:

9. It's just so weird
She's a really nice person most of the time, but when she starts bush-speak, you can physically see the change in her. She starts looking angry and downright frightening. I don't understand this on/off switch these people seem to have.

13. Tell her that because of Daylight Savings Time, the
election has been moved to Wednesday. I get the feeling that she might fall for it.

People who seem "nice" on the outside, are often (not always) harboring a lot of rage behind the facade. Behind her "reasons" for voting Bush is a lot of anger, fear and hate.

I should have compassion for people like that, but I don't. A lot of other people are going to suffer for the ignorance of the likes of her.

36. She comes from that 50% of society which embraces fascism and or
Oligarchy when they are given the opportunity to do so. These are the same sort who will turn you over to the dictators enforcers and feel good about themselves as you are marched off to the gas chamber.

Never make the mistake of believing these people are "nice". They are not nice...they are fundamentally evil, they facilitate evil, they admire evil and they actively embrace evil even when logic makes quite clear what it is they are embracing. A friendly smile and happy disposition does not make one "nice". If it did we could call John Wayne Gacy a nice guy....after all, he was, until he got you into his basement. Plenty of nice Germans turned their Jewish neighbors over to be gassed, raped, murdered or used as slave labor.

What she has, isn't an on/off switch. What she possesses is an appealing exterior that disguises the evil bubbling underneath.

Many of us have relatives sho fit the above description....and for that reason refuse to recognize its accuracy. Their are many dead Germans who suffered the same niavte.

62. Holy shit, Rapid Creek!! You are SO RIGHT!!
In fact, I just bookmarked this thread because of your very lucid and sobering post.

What you said is soooooo true!

"Many of us have relatives who fit the above description....and for that reason refuse to recognize its accuracy. There are many dead Germans who suffered the same naivete."

I have several friends and a sister who are just like you describe here. They drink the fascist kool-aid because it resonates with the evil in their souls. A gentle and loving soul COULDN'T, WOULDN'T follow that line of reasoning that they are sucked in by, to follow that hateful line of reasoning.

Just like that guy in Texas that held his girlfriend captive at knife point because she was voting for Kerry. They are evil. Even the ones that WE want to believe "just don't know better"...they are still "resonating" with the message they are following, and it is pure evil. They AREN'T innocent bystanders to all of this. And they WOULD turn us in in a heartbeat, and feel good about themselves.

We need to get the media out of the control of the evil ones, so that we can at least educate the ones that are coming up, to think critically, to QUESTION what they're doing...to truly ANALYZE situations all the way through to their LOGICAL conclusions. Stupid people are ESPECIALLY DANGEROUS!!!

Such as: You don't invade a country with an entirely different culture, and kill many of their family members, and then expect them to love you and give you all their oil!!!! HELLO!!!!! But, look at how many people support the bush agenda in Iraq!! They drink the kool-aid because of the darkness that resonates in their hearts.

And by the way she's got it backward. I'm from Canada and we don't hate America and we don't hate Bush either. We're just appalled that that a sociopath is the President of the most powerful nation in the world.

Up here we think Bush is like a monkey in the zoo who masturbates in front of you. We know he can't help it but it doesn't make it less disgusting to watch.

4. Look at this
PIPA found that Bush supporters are not in touch with reality: http://www.pipa.org/OnlineReports/Pres_Election_04/Press10_21_04.pdf

http://www.pipa.org/

There is a lot of stuff here but one of the interesting ones to me is that a majority of Bush supporters believe that the world is behind Bush, when in reality in every single global poll Kerry comes out with 80% and the majority of the world does not support the war. (duh).

It blew me away that they would think the world is in agreement with them, when the world saw the largest global anti-war protests in the world and when all Bush and his supporters have done *consistently* is give the world the middle finger. French Boycott? Remember that? Why would they _ever_ be surprised that the world is not on their side??

10. You gotta read Lakoff's new book
He talks about the "permission slip" frame.

an excerpt:

http://www.thinkingpeace.com/Lib/lib108.html

That is what framing is about. Framing is about getting language that fits your worldview. It is not just language. The ideas are primary — and the language carries those ideas, evokes those ideas. There was another good example in the State of the Union address in January. This one was a remarkable metaphor to find in a State of the Union address. Bush said, "We do not need a permission slip to defend America." What is going on with a permission slip? He could have just said, "We won't ask permission." But talking about a permission slip is different. Think about when you last needed a permission slip. Think about who has to ask for a permission slip. Think about who is being asked. Think about the relationship between them.

The truth is most of the world still respects the US and likes the American people but they despise our leader and suspect we might all be idiots since so many people here still support him.

28. Jealous? Hardly.
Sadly, your friend is reinforcing an old American stereotype: the ignorant simpleton/yokel who doesn't "get out" much.

I'm from Canada. No "jumping the border" in droves here. No crossing the "Rio Norte"...in fact, it's quite the opposite: Boatloads of Americans getting flu shots, busloads of seniors on prescription drug-buying junkets, not to mention thousands of ex-pats now just "getting out" of the states. But I digress...

When's the last time your friend saw a boatload of "Swedish refugees" washed up on the shores of Long Island?

People like your friend, sadly, make you all look bad.

Not to worry. We non-Americans are not stupid. We know yokels and idiots are the minority.

29. Why would the world be jealous of a nation...
That squanders 40% of its federal budget on the military, that doesn't even provide health care to 40% of its citizens, that has seen real standard of living slump for most people for almost 20 years now, where half of the people are so paranoid about "the coloreds" that they pack a fucking GUN. Where unions are bashed and the rights of workers pissed away in scam trade deals like NAFTA and FTAA.

Why the hell would people in Europe or Japan be jealous? They countries are civilized, and actually living in the 21st century. Aside from the internet, we're still stuck in about 1960.
