I'm humbled by the youth vote!
One of the things that is really really touching my heart today is the amount of YOUTH coming out to help us defeat this cancer in our land, and save our democracy!!

I'm rather "misted" up thinking about it. THEY are saving this thing! The singers/artists, the volunteers, the first time voters, the GOTV, Rock the vote...........ALL OF IT, ALL OF IT. From the walking to the talking to the voting. I'm completely blown away!!!!

Young people: YOU ARE MAKING HISTORY!! I'm soooooooooooooooooooo proud and encouraged by all of you. As long as I live, I shall never forget what you are doing for and during this critical election; for this country, for our future........

With jaw dropping astonishment, I Love you all :loveya:

Peace in our time~~SB

10. Yeah, 'cause some of us are getting
a little old for this shit.

I have always felt that our younger generations were getting a bad rap in general. They're very committed -- just even more cynical about government and politics than the rest of us.

:toast: to the younger generations! From an old boomer.

2. Thanks for the affection!
I missed voting in the last election by being 4 months away from being 18. It irritated the hell out of me, but I knew Gore would take California anyway. Now I get to do my part to make sure Kerry gets a landslide in CA. :D

5. Don't forget the under 18 crowd ...

They can't vote, but they can see, and they know what happens today will affect them tomorrow. I've come across a number of teenagers working harder on this election than a lot of adults.

I can't say this without mentioning my daughter and her friends who, as a group, have orchestrated a pro-Kerry campaign in the heart of a 2000 population Freeper town. They've been threatened, ostracized, and criticized, and they keep on going.

9. Crazy
I was just about to post about this. Thanks for the thanks!

I was going to say that when Kerry wins on Tuesday, he had better give mad props to the younger demographics. It is my belief that we will be the ones who decide this election.

11. my 17 year old son wrote this last night
TRUTH 2004

It all started in 1776
The birth of a nation unlike any other
A land of freedom
For any and every color
But behind the red, white and blue
Are things unheard of by the average Joe
'Cuz it's not on your television news
If you recall in the year 2000
GW Bush ran against a winning Al Gore
But Big Bush couldn't let his son lose
So the Republicans decided to settle the score
A recount demanded in the southernmost state
People came to count the country's fate
When Bush seemed to be ahead
The Supreme Court stepped in and they said
"Stop the polls, what are you counting for?
We declare Bush President, not Al Gore."
But the Supreme Court
Doesn't have that given power
But no one contested or rallied in the streets
So Bush was made man of the hour.

In 1941, pre WWII, when Japan attacked us
Do you know the facts behind the fuss?
We cut off the oil supply to Japan
Of course they're gonna be pissed, thus
In retaliation they bombed Pearl Harbor
A Naval base, unprepared and unarmored
But the Government knew what was going down
We just needed an excuse to become war bound
"I hate the Japanese, Germans, Russians"
The ignorant citizens slurred down the streets cussing
A perfectly devised government plan
To fight all the superpowers of the world
US was now "the Man"

Sixty years later, it's now 2001
The year the world cried and chaos begun
Rewind on back to the "terrorist attack"
Two planes crashed into the Twin Towers
Two monuments fell right before our eyes
So we rose our two fists in fury
But started swinging at the wrong guys
And we blamed Iraq for the "second Pearl Harbor"
But we didn't send troops to fight terrorists
We just wanted the oil Iraq harbored
And that is what the world is all about
Whoever controls the black gold
Will be the ultimate force in control
So we decided to take matters into our own hands
Invade an innocent country to control the flow

Name one thing Iraq has done against us
That's right, you don't have one
So we armed 18 year olds with guns
Let them run around, get shot at by patriots
Protecting their own country against intruders
While the US Government laughed and had fun
While hundreds of families lost loved ones
Victims of a pointless war that had begun
Praying every day for the day to be undone.

I will not stand here and tell you who to vote for
I am just one to show you a different door
So while you're standing in line to cast your vote
Think of the past four years--forget the lines I wrote
Were they the best? Were they the worst?
As an American that's your opinion
And the beauty of this country is you have a voice
Exercise it, by making the right choice
For you, your family and for your friends
And the future of your fellow Americans.

Please pass this on if you like it!

16. Here's to your generation
:toast: from a baby boomer that marched against the Vietnam war.

I pray that your generation will have the strength and wisdom to fight back against the fascists whenever they stick their sick heads up. They will NEVER go away. They have to be trimmed and pruned like poison ivey.

14. I feel the same way, my daughter 22 told me last night
they just finished Clintons book on cd and he reads it himself, I think I might get it that way. I never thought I would hear her and her husband be involved politcally as they are living on base and her husband is officer in air force. It was great to have her tell me, did you know....yes I knew but didn't say oh that I knew that months ago, I was just excited she cared.

15. Proud Mom
My 19 year old son, my 19 year old niece and my 18 year old nephew all voted early on Sunday. Straight democratic ticket! It was a great day! I have seen many many young people out in the streets canvasing, phone banking, you name it. My 14 year old has hit the streets with me in the RAIN to help. Thank God for all these young people.

17. I went away for some hours....I come back to see what is written...
That "mist" in my eye has turned to a pure, joyful, glistening tear....

My heart is full of Gratitude and Joy and a certain peace that we "oldies" are in good hands, the country will survive...the fight for what's right has passed from our hands into yours--the Young. You've grown and are growing into the fullness of your time. We hope you'll pass your fervor and insight to the next generation after you....

Never forget, never let the flame die, and Never Back Down.

Hats off to all my juniors and parents alike. Long live the American spirit!!

I beleive in revering my elders, who are anyone older and wiser than myself.

Of course, they can lose my respect as well, but I find more often than not that they don't.

Bloody about time WE got off our asses. Most of them are just following their elders example. Maybe if the prior generation had been more diligent, They wouldn't be facing the mess we got them into.

But we spent plenty of time on our asses, too. Ever hear of sit-ins?

These little darlings haven't.

Oh, yes, we also got legal abortions, broke school dress codes, the vote at 18.......

19. I've been able to vote for 8 years...
...and I hope that these last four years becomes, if nothing else, a real wake-up call, a defining moment where everything crystalized into sober clarity, and the youth of this country realized that the democracy we've inherited RESTS PARTLY ON OUR BACKS.

We've got the burden, and we've always had it. We've just been slacking off. Once we realize this weight is on our shoulders, and MUST be, we will all start to pull, and collectively take up our fair share, and never forget that we almost let go of the reins.

25. Wow...
That was a disturbing experience to say the least - the whole America's Funniest Home Videos audience, laughing at graphic depictions of maiming and death. I don't know how to react.

In a way, it's probably a necessary evil; people need to see this damage and destruction to realize what's really going on in the world.

On the other hand, it wouldn't hurt to post a warning before you link someone to a video that contains graphic images like that.

Just a heads up.

26. 23 here...I've never been this invested in anything in my life.
Its kinda changed me, I've gotten so interested in it all, that I changed my major to poli/sci about a year ago and I've never been happier with my education. Its something that will stay with me the rest of my life, whether we win, or god forbid if we lose, whatever happens.
