FWIW ...

Toby Keith is a Democrat (an Oklahoma Democrat, but still), and he's backed off his war-mongering since that horrible song. Me'thinks Willie slapped some sense into him, or at least tried to.

Interesting. Was it one of those actual lists from opensecrets or something? I ask because there are other lists of celebrities that base their judgment of that celebrity's political leanings on some less than decisive information.

I wouldn't doubt it, so I won't question it too much. I just know some of the people he runs with in OK, and a lot of them are pretty hardcore yellow dogs who are supporting Kerry fairly openly.

OnEdit: Sure enough. He gave $2000 on September 10, 2003.

17. You're always bashing country
Or looking for an excuse to do so.

I am tired of having to kncok you down with the facts every time you post your bigoted bullshit.

First, Brooks & Dunn, Toby Keith, etc, aren't country. They're Top 40 Pop with a phony twang. Second, real country music has its roots in the progressive tradition of the Carter Family, Woody Guthrie, and so many more I get sick of naming, because you never listen. You don't want to listen, because where would your fun be if you couldn't bash southerners (your normal target) or country music on a regular basis?

Also, it's not very smart to deliberately piss yourself off watching Diane Sawyer or her ilk, especially is she has guests you already know you won't like. Then coming on here to bitch, piss, and moan.

Not very progressive, indeed.

28. And Kelsey Grammer ...

And Kelsey Grammer is a powerful part of the Hollywood/Television industry. So what ...

I appreciate and share your rage at dissension being attacked. But, the point being made is that the appropriate target is the individuals who make the attacks, not some specific "community" with varied individuals in it.

Steve Earle and Tony Stampley, among others, are the other side of this coin, so the hatred of country music, for this reason, is misplaced and potentially destructive to our cause, imo.

35. And Nanci Griffith who had the balls to sing an Anti-War
song on live TV on the stage of the Grand Ol Opry in her very first, and probably last, appereance. And this was back when MM was proably getting a hard on to go out and kill the bastards like everyone else in this country right after 9/11.....

I agree with the posts that Brookes and Dunn and Toby Kieth and that black hat wearing ass hole who sings that song about you do your thing I'll do mine or what ever macho bacnk country bullshit this city feller is talking about are so far removed from the original intenet of country.....

But let's face it folks, it all springs from a melding of gospell and folk and a little Jazz thrown in just to spice it up a bit..... That spells family values with a capital F.. Except in the old days Family Values meant standing up for them that needs standin' up for.....

Just think about perhaps the second best movie of all time, The Grapes of Wrath, and you'll get an idea of what the Carter Family and Jimmy Rogers were wrabblin' about back in the 20's and 30's

Tom Jode for President.........

Curiously, Bruce wrote a song about ol Tom........

Is'nt DU a wonderful place for open minded people to become enlightened. Take a minute to read these links, it may soften your uninformed opinion.

NASHVILLE (AP) -- Some Nashville musicians have recorded a song critical of President Bush.

It's titled "Takin' My Country Back" and it chides the president for the war in Iraq, the budget deficit, the economy and other issues.<snip

The Dixie Chicks have hit back at a campaign by pro-war demonstrators to derail their career - saying they'll 'never apologise' for their remarks.

The female country group were performing at last night's 'Vote For Change' show, which wrapped up its 11-state concert tour with a five-hour grand finale in Washington, D.C.

"We're trying to kiss up to James so that if our career doesn't work out we can play his band," singer Natalie Maines said jokingly as she addressed the Washington D.C crowd.

"Do you wanna take back what you said or apologise?," she added passionately, but with a sense of irony. "Well I thought about it, and I thought Bush will call me a flip-flopper...so no!"<snip

30. Man, those Dixie Chicks...
What a hoot that some of Dubya's most recalcitrant critics are bigtime country stars. And to keep on zinging him after a year and a half of facing potentially hostile audiences... that's grit.

Tough. As. Nails.

I don't like country, but I love and admire those Chicks.

34. There are many country stars and others in the industry
working hard to support Democratic candidates and progressive causes.

B&D just plain suck. They are hacks and are part of a very powerful cabal of repuke, neocon tools who have considerable power in the industry. They, TK and others are just more examples of media whores, just in a different medium.

The hypocrisy of this statement is mind boggling. One of the major characteristics of current pop-country that keeps it from being more popular is its utter lack of irony. These wads are prime examples of that lack of self awareness and introspection.
