Joe Biden as Secretary Of State?
THE man whose presidential ambitions were destroyed when he plagiarised Neil Kinnock is set to become America’s chief foreign policymaker if John Kerry is elected President next Tuesday.

Senator Joseph Biden of Delaware has been asked by Mr Kerry to become Secretary of State in a Democratic administration, according to Kerry campaign aides. Mr Biden, the leading Democrat on the Senate Foreign Relations Committee for the past four years, ran for President in 1988. His campaign ended abruptly when it was revealed that a key element of his stump speech had been lifted directly from Mr Kinnock’s general election speeches in 1987.

3. Hope the Times is wrong....
Starting out by raiding the Senate and House for cabinet officers at a time when the party balance is bad is a good way to ruin four years in the White House.

As I recall, Bush depended upon not a single Senate or House member for his initial cabinet (of course, he had quite a different agenda). Unless Maryland is well sewed-up for a Democratic replacement, it's a bad idea. If the Maryland Republican governor gets to appoint an interim replacement, it's a worse idea.

With a Repug-led House and Senate, how does Kerry make any substantive changes--for prime example, how does he get Congress to repeal tax breaks for the wealthy and close corporate tax loopholes, his centerpiece legislation necessary to pay for all the other proposed programs?

6. Biden is from Delaware.
I don't think Bill Lee stands a chance in hell of getting elected in Delaware, so Ruth Ann Miller (a Dem), would appoint his successor.

Not Maryland. That would be Sarbanes. Who would not be a bad choice for the SEC.
