non voters should drop dead
i used to be one myself. i was 41 before i ever voted, shame on me. i voted to fire george bush the first and it felt good. but i am ashamed of the years i did not bother to vote.

i believe it should be REQUIRED for any adult tax payer to vote, informed or stupid. it's a damn shame that millions of qualified citizens don't vote, leaving it up to a tiny fraction of people, half of which are idiots.

and undecideds piss me off just about as much. do zebras and antelopes hang around undecided when lions jump out at them? only the dead ones.

one of the greatest threats to our democracy in my opinion, is apathy and people who don't bother to vote.

1. I was a late voter too
I was shamed into voting after I read a letter to the editor from a WWII veteran. I'd like to think, however, that in THIS atmosphere there is no WAY I would ever miss voting.

I don't agree that voting should be required though; the people that care enough to vote, right or wrong, should decide the elections.

2. I've voted in every election since I turned 18
My motto is "If you don't vote, don't bitch"

6. Me too. I cast my first vote for Jimmy Carter
I also voted for Mondale and Dukakis.:-)

After the '92 RNC and Clinton's victory, I thought this country had sworn off Bushco and neocons forever. It showed me it's not enough just to vote every four years. They never stopped pulling to the right even during the Clinton years and look where we are now.

3. Oh, please....think what you're saying!
I, for one, would LOVE to find a way to discourage ALL racists, anti-choice religious nuts, homophobes, lying Swift Boat liars, rushbots, etc., from voting. Freedom means freedom NOT to vote just as much as anything else. If it ain't voluntary, it ain't democratic.

4. I would rather see people made RESPONSIBLE for their vote
So if the people you voted for win, you are fiscally and militarily responsible for their votes on bills and declarations of war.

Hence, you vote for Bush, and he gets us engaged in a war, you are either inducted into the military or if you are physically unable or the military says it does not need you, you are apportioned financial responsibility for the costs of conducting the war, which includes caring for veterans or their families. If you don't vote for Bush, then you can opt out of these responsibilities.

If you don't vote, then you are held responsible.

To the victor goes the spoils, so to speak.

7. Maybe if they made voting a requirement
for getting an income tax refund back, especially those who get those large earned income tax refunds back. There would be so many people voting it would take more than one day to do it.

9. Sorry mp but...
must respectfully disagree with you here(this is a first)but I think an educated electorate is important in this day and age.
This is one place I feel the repukes beat us in every vote. They are dedicated ,committed, yeah even worship there quest for wealth and power. While we the masses tend to vacillate between an I have enough or I have plenty attitude. This is pretty easy to control don't you think?
