my idea: Jon Stewart SHOULD be Kerry's Press Secty...now wait...(list) |
|
...a minute...bear with me, here's my list:
1. Americans could watch a press briefing without falling asleep 2. The Press could watch a press briefin without falling asleep 3. He's "pre-disastered" by calling Carlson a dick, so if he ever did something similar, they just say "oh, that's just Jon being Jon". 4. There's no way anyone would ever consider him a shill. Ironically, his statements would be MORE trustworthy and believable, coming from a sarcastic comedian. 5. He would intimidate the WH press corp into asking only relevant questions, or he'd hold their feet to the fire and embarrass them. No one would dare attend with a bow tie. 6. He can think on his feet, so no unscripted question could throw him. Having watched him interview Madeliene Albright and others, He's amazingly well informed already. 7. Most of his briefings would be shown on the news, (meaning more total air time) instead of snippets of catch phrases....so his job in disseminating information would be more effective. 8. He's likable..unlike all the other previous press sectys (talking the repub ones) 9. He'd get better ratings than being on cable. 10. He wouldn't be following a show with puppets making crank phone calls. (unless you mean Karl Rove, who is like the evil Dr. Bunsen Honeydew) 11. He'd be a built in pressure release for any gaffes...."oh, you know, that's Jon, he was working on his own riffs there. He was gauging the temperature of the room...."
anyone else got more to add to the list?

5. not his press secretarty but ... |
|
i actually wrote something similar to this a few days ago ...
one of the critical problems we face is the centralized right-wing control of news organizations ... my idea would be to have Kerry tape a five minute nightly segment with Stewart picking apart some of the shoddy, biased reporting found on many of the cable stations and broadcast networks ...
The Daily Show was great last night ... they had a clip of bush saying something to the effect that the American people should not trust or vote for someone who jumps to conclusions without having all the facts ... bush was referencing Kerry's comments on the missing explosives ... Stewart then showed about 10 clips of bush's comments about Saddam having WMD and how that justified going to war ... for once i agreed with bush ... we should not elect anyone who makes judgments without getting the facts first ...
