The Compleat Denial-O'LIELLY Settlement Digest
Edited on Fri Oct-29-04 09:59 AM by UTUSN
This dude has NOT hit rock-bottom in his DENIAL. "no wrongdoing by ANYONE"----meaning HIM while smearing that SHE *might* have. The endless cloaking himself in noble motives ---"I had to protect my family"--------FROM YOUR OWN ACTIONS, Denial-O'LIELLY!!!! So Faux didn't pay a penny, meaning AILES told him, "Suck it up, O'LIELLY, you stepped on your own dick." His DENIAL (spin) is BRAZEN. The best word to come out of this is his being an object of SCORN. It needs to be a SHUNNING.

Can he, with a straight face, EVER again say he looks out for the LITTLE GUY? The little guy who would be drawn and quartered for doing the same thing? Can he ever again excoriate Ludacris, the Mexican border, France, KERRY, Jesse JACKSON-----for supposed character flaws? Answer: Yes, the denial is THAT deep.

http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/articles/A7578-2004Oct28.html

O'Reilly told viewers, in language cleared by the lawyers, that there was "no wrongdoing in the case whatsoever by anyone" -- ....

Describing himself as an "object of media scorn," O'Reilly told viewers: "On a personal note, this matter has caused enormous pain, but I had to protect my family and I did. Some of the media hammered me relentlessly because, as you know, I am a huge target, as is Fox News. . . .

"The good news is that 'Factor' viewers and listeners seem to have given me the benefit of any doubt when some in the media did not. You guys looked out for me and I will never forget it. This brutal ordeal is now officially over, and I will never speak of it again."

http://www.nypost.com/seven/10292004/news/regionalnews/31330.htm

Financial terms weren't disclosed, but it's believed O'Reilly — and O'Reilly alone — paid multimillions of dollars. ....

The settlement statement did not mention the Fox News Channel, which had filed suit with O'Reilly against Mackris and was named as a defendant with O'Reilly by Mackris. That means the network was likely not involved in the deal. A spokeswoman for Fox declined comment. ....

During last night's show, O'Reilly said the case has "made me the object of media scorn from coast to coast," ....

http://www.latimes.com/news/custom/showcase/la-na-oreilly29oct29.story

.... Veteran employment lawyer Debra Katz characterized O'Reilly's remarks on his program Thursday as "brazen" in their emphasis that the host had been victimized by the situation. His extortion suit against Mackris, she added, trivialized the case by feeding into a "lousy sexual stereotype" of gold-digging women filing harassment claims against rich and powerful men.

But another lawyer said O'Reilly's on-air remarks probably were hammered out during the settlement talks. The settlement "is the best result, in my view," said Laura Petroff, a lawyer at Winston & Strawn in Los Angeles who has litigated numerous sexual-harassment cases. "Otherwise, both of them will be dragged through the mud." ....

4. Guilt is a funny word in legal terms.
Anyway, I doubt there was ever any real doubt that he did it, and I also doubt she would have won her suit, which is why Fox was able to stay clear. But those tapes would have made him forever a laughingstock, so from his standpoint it was money well spent.

In the future, perhaps he would find dialing 900 numbers cheaper. Those have to be the most expensive phone sex calls in history.

2. Next up: O'Reilly loses the re$t in O'Reilly vs O'Reilly?
If he settled out of his own pocket (and he should have cuz he is the one who was at fault) Mrs. O'Reilly took a financial hit too. You might forgive a man a certain carnal indiscretion or two but a major hit to the assets? Hmmmm, have to think about that one. You listening there Mrs O? How many suits you gonna stand for him to settle before you protect your own interests?

There was an item saying there are two more women in the wings weighing their options.

9. The Tapes Angle Was What Wasn't Clear, Explanation-Please
From the beginning it was said that taping in NY is illegal if the tape-ee doesn't know/doesn't give consent. So if she taped in NY, giving them up would lead to charges against HER, no?

But clearly, O'LIELLY was over a barrel over SOMETHING, whatever that irrefutable fallafel was.

10. He should have thought about protecting his family BEFORE
he started acting like a horny adolescent. I would LOVE to hear what his wife and kids have to say now.

11. Anyone who still watches him, is approving of his behavior. So, I hope
we never hear another quote from him, or his show mentioned on DU ever again.

If his loyal veiwers stay with him over this, then THEY are the ones who should have the disapproval, too....

But, we have lots of Howard Stern lovers here on DU who think he's wonderful because he's supporting Democrats. I always thought he was a piece of trash and wouldn't watch or listen to him. His behavior towards women is to me as bad as O'Liely. It's just that Stern is open about it and doesn't resort to phoning.
