Just heard on some cable news channel (I was doing a flip-through -- I can't watch any segment for more than 45 seconds) that it's possible that:
1) bush and Kerry tie 269/269 2) the House stays Repub 3) the Senate goes Dem 4) as a result, we have bush/Edwards for the next 4 years
Is this true? Can you imagine anything more fu*ked up?

Not very likely, but hey, funnier things have happened.
On edit: I should add that if we take back the Senate, it will mean too many Dems came out to possibly have this race be tied, or even close.

6. my thought on senate / house / coattails |
|
in 94 repugs were pissed and they went out and voted for anything republican, they took the house and a mess of senate seats.
in 04 dems are freaking pissed we are not going to vote for repubs for anything. wherever kerry wins dems should win. bush/cheney/delay stink will rub off on every congressperson.

7. That's exactly what I mean |
|
Except even still, it'll be hard to get back the House. Too many incumbents in safe districts.

It is constitutionally possible. It's also fucked up. It's also extremely unlikely.
Yesterday, someone posted on Fark (I know, I know) a link that showed how (believe it or not) John McCain could become President if the election went to the House.

tie would be broken by the House. besides, even if the Senante becomes Dem controlled, the president of the senate is the VP, and the VP is name on the party ticket, not by direct election (anymore)

5. No. The current House/Senate would make the choices if a tie, NOT |
|
the new House/Senate.
Tie = repuke House/Senate = bush*/cheney = perhaps the cultural/civil war begins
