The lady is apparently a multi-millionaire now.

24. What??? Since he settled he's obviously got something to hide....
and doesn't want those tapes to go public.

So he gets to keep his multi-million dollar job as a professional moralizer,
and she gets fired.

I'm GLAD she got the money.

31. Why do you think it looks shady?
I'm interested in hearing your reasoning. Remember, this woman has been fired from Fox, and could very likely be "blacklisted" in her industry due to this. That 4-5 million she got may have to last her a while.

But back to you: why do you think it looks shady?

33. Didn't she get hired by Fox twice?
I don't know. She's a multi-millionaire now after being flirted on by O'Reilly. I'm not excusing anything O'Reilly did, but this sort of thing is kind of sad.

35. But you haven't explained why it is sad.
Edited on Fri Oct-29-04 01:47 PM by bunnyj
What is wrong with what she did? If we assume that she's telling the truth, as evidenced in part by O'Reilly's willingness to settle, why is it wrong for her to do this?

He was in a position of authority, spoke to her in as crude and vulgar a way as someone can, and allegedly threatened her that no one would take her word over his. I do not call this flirting, not by a long shot.

Who knows what influence O'Reilly may have with others in that field. She may become unemployable due to O'Reilly's actions and her refusal to tolerate them. Being a 4 or 5 million-dollar-aire in NYC may not mean all that much for her in the long run.

So, why is that sad? Can you be more clear on just what aspect of this is upsetting you?

I don't watch him now. I'm going to keep not watching him. I think he probably did do something, and if he was my employee, I would fire him. But he's not. And Fox figured that it was better to pay her off and keep their top ratings draw in Prime Time.

The system, I guess, worked.

Rush's drug crimes don't matter either. There will be plenty of time to discuss these things after Kerry wins.

On Edit: The fact that Al Franken was threatened by O'Reilly and Ailes (as mentioned in the suit) bothers me. It's been ignored so far.

O'Really is a sick cunt. But let's not make too much noise. Shhhhh.

It's like the debates; Bush is screaming and ranting like a two year old but what do we hear? Wow, Kerry looked desparate. What the fuck!?

The good news is we STILL might win this election.

P.S.
Don't forget we let Bush steal the 2000 election.

His FUCKING CAMPAIGN MANAGER was the supervisor of elections in FL.

His FUCKING BROTHER is the governor of the same state.

His FUCKING COUSIN called the election in his favor on Faux news...

but hey, ya know, what can ya do?

Ms Mackris called their bluff. Big time. Guess who won? These tapes could have had nothing on them! Think about it!!

And I respectfully submit to all the sentiments that O'LIELLY is irrelevant to us that he, LIMBOsevic, DRUDGE, and the rest are powerful in the cultural-political wars and their knocking themselves off IS important to us.

http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.ph...

This dude has NOT hit rock-bottom in his DENIAL. "no wrongdoing by ANYONE"----meaning HIM while smearing that SHE *might* have. The endless cloaking himself in noble motives ---"I had to protect my family"--------FROM YOUR OWN ACTIONS, Denial-O'LIELLY!!!! So Faux didn't pay a penny, meaning AILES told him, "Suck it up, O'LIELLY, you stepped on your own richard." His DENIAL (spin) is BRAZEN. The best word to come out of this is his being an object of SCORN. It needs to be a SHUNNING.

Can he, with a straight face, EVER again say he looks out for the LITTLE GUY? The little guy who would be drawn and quartered for doing the same thing? Can he ever again excoriate Ludacris, the Mexican border, France, KERRY, Jesse JACKSON-----for supposed character flaws? Answer: Yes, the denial is THAT deep.

*******QUOTE*******

http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/articles/A7578-200...

O'Reilly told viewers, in language cleared by the lawyers, that there was "no wrongdoing in the case whatsoever by anyone" -- ....

Describing himself as an "object of media scorn," O'Reilly told viewers: "On a personal note, this matter has caused enormous pain, but I had to protect my family and I did. Some of the media hammered me relentlessly because, as you know, I am a huge target, as is Fox News. . . .

"The good news is that 'Factor' viewers and listeners seem to have given me the benefit of any doubt when some in the media did not. You guys looked out for me and I will never forget it. This brutal ordeal is now officially over, and I will never speak of it again."

http://www.nypost.com/seven/10292004/news/regionalnews/...

Financial terms weren't disclosed, but it's believed O'Reilly — and O'Reilly alone — paid multimillions of dollars. ....

The settlement statement did not mention the Fox News Channel, which had filed suit with O'Reilly against Mackris and was named as a defendant with O'Reilly by Mackris. That means the network was likely not involved in the deal. A spokeswoman for Fox declined comment. ....

During last night's show, O'Reilly said the case has "made me the object of media scorn from coast to coast," ....

http://www.latimes.com/news/custom/showcase/la-na-oreil...

.... Veteran employment lawyer Debra Katz characterized O'Reilly's remarks on his program Thursday as "brazen" in their emphasis that the host had been victimized by the situation. His extortion suit against Mackris, she added, trivialized the case by feeding into a "lousy sexual stereotype" of gold-digging women filing harassment claims against rich and powerful men.

But another lawyer said O'Reilly's on-air remarks probably were hammered out during the settlement talks. The settlement "is the best result, in my view," said Laura Petroff, a lawyer at Winston & Strawn in Los Angeles who has litigated numerous sexual-harassment cases. "Otherwise, both of them will be dragged through the mud." ....

These vermin still have center stage in the theater of public opinion. They still have the ability to shill for the incompetent boob we have as president. And WHEN Kerry gets elected they will continue to shout over more balanced and factual reporting to keep their base fired up, spew disgusting rumors, distort events and will make it almost impossible for Kerry to push his agenda.

These are the same people who have made the mainstream media cower for fear of being called the liberal press. They demonized Bill and Hillary Clinton and Ted Kennedy, and now John Kerry from 9:00 in the morning til 12:00 midnight, 5 days a week, 52 weeks a year.

I agree we first have to get Kerry elected. But we cannot let this nasty, hypocritical wolf pack of neo-con nazis continue unfettered and unchallenged. Air America is a start. Sites like DU are a start. MoveOn is a start. But this fight is not over after the elections.
