Why doesn't DirecTV carry the BBC?
I imagine all of the news nets will pick up the OBL tape, but still, it would be nice to catch it on the BBC. I wish DirecTV carried it. Does the Dish? Maybe it's time to switch.......

I still have a few gift cards for new subscribers.. I got them for my sons to use when they signed up, and the little punks couldn't wait.. They signed up the day before the cards came in the mail:grr:

5. Damn! We have DirectTV
and a one-year contract to keep it with TIVO. Does that sound right?

3. Cuz of the piss-poor job they've done covering the Scott Peterson trial

DirecTV does offer BBC America, which is felt to be more suitable for US audiences. Lots of comedy shows and almost none of that constant BBC anti-American harping, mostly about things that don't even happen in America and have nothing at all to do with Scott Peterson.

4. Two words: Rupert Murdock
He owns DirecTV and he is not known for enthusiasm in the effort to get real news to the American public.

Dish has Free Speech TV and Link TV and you don't put $ in Murdock's pocket. Their customer service is great. I wish I could get back all the time I spent on hold with direcTV and all the trips to the UPS pickup station sending back defective receiver after defective receiver.

Dish has BBC in America too if you like BBC shows

6. I get BBC America on my DirecTV--
I know it is not the same, but do get a tiny bit of news on it---mostly fluff and no hard-hitting documentaries.
Newsworld International is better (I get that too) I believe that this channel is the one Gore is said to be taking over---but when, or did that deal fall through?

15. When I was in Japan last month
I learned that satellite TV subscribers in Japan get a better selection of TV stations than we do, including the BBC news service and BBC dramas. That's even though 90% of the population wouldn't be able to understand much of what was going on on either channel.

16. You know what I have about five religious stations I could
do without. Maybe we should start a letter writing campaign so that we can have a choice. I would gladly trade those stations for some overseas cable news feeds.

17. Well, there's another thing about satellite TV in Japan:
You do get a choice of which stations you want. You can buy packages of stations, as you do here, but you can also order individual stations for about $3 a month each.

I'm jealous. :-(

14. Also, at 7:30 PM PDT, LINK TV Channel 375 on DirecTV
airs Mosaic, which is all Arab TV news broadcasts. I sure they will have something about this.
