I find this curious, though. Seems to me, I remember bin Laden saying just after the 9/11 incident that he had nothing to do with it. Why would he now take credit for it, after the maximum moment of psychological impact is gone? And why no other videos in the last 3 years?

I put the photos into Photoshop and played around but because the angle is different for the "latest" and the head is not tilted, which seems characteristic gesture in the other Osama pictures, it's hard to tell. It appears his nose is thicker at the bridge, the fat pads around the mouth are thicker. The eyebrows not curving in "latest". The brows are straight and thick all the way across rather than thicker toward the midline of the face and becoming narrower. Real Osama pix all have a graceful curve to the brows. The nose is similar but wider and shorter. The whole face looks slightly shorter and wider. If I change the scale of the latest photo, making it longer and narrower, it more closely resembles the real Osama pix, but then the shoulders are narrower, even taking into consideration the different clothing.

Creepy exercise. Ugh. If it's Osama, he's been squished.

Bridge of nose flatter, wider on first guy. Eyebrow arches higher on right eye for first guy, whereas left one is higher on original OBL pic. That's a little more changeable than nasal septum, but still, people have characteristic facial expressions that stay pretty consistent. Eyes look very different, but first could just be puffiness.

The real Osama has a piercing, intelligent, but fanatical look in all of the photos. The current guy just looks like somebody's fuddy old grandfather.

The real Osama's face is all emphases -- large rounded eyes, arched brows, a nose that is high and narrow at the bridge and comes down to a point at the tip, pointed hollows in the cheeks.

This guy's face is all smoothed out and softened. His eyes are undistinguished, his brows are level and uniform in thickness, his nose is straight across at the bottom, and his cheeks are puffy.

It's vaguely possible that medication (steroids?) could cause some of the differences, but I don't see how anything could change the eyebrows and the nose.

I do not speak a word of Arab, but the voice spoke in a monotone that sounded a little lower in pitch than the more effiminate, more delicately pitched instrument played by (I think it was) the Fat Osama. I get them confused. This one sounded to me more businesslike, much like I would imagine the real CEO Mr. bin Laden, as the New York Times calls him, to sound. I realize it's Ramadam, but if this one puts on a few more pounds, he'd make a great Santa Claus at Christmas.

If they were going to put out a fake video, they would put a weapon in the shot, because Osama ALWAYS has a weapon, either on his lap, over his shoulder, or propped behind him against the wall.

If they were going to fake this, they'd dress him in fatigues. They'd gin up a suitably ambiguous background, and not have him against an unidentifiable backdrop (he's no fool--he ain't telegraphing whether he is in Afghanistan, Pakistan, Saudi Arabia, Iran, or Reno, Nevada).
