WASHINGTON -- The State Department on Friday asked the government of Qatar to discourage Al-Jazeera from broadcasting a videotaped speech by Osama bin Laden, a senior State Department official said.

The official, who spoke on condition of anonymity, said the State Department spoke to officials in Qatar before Al-Jazeera showed a portion of the tape.

It seems like saying this (leak or not) sounds better than if people were to have the idea that Bush* & Co. wanted this to come out at this time.

There are still lots of threads about it in campaigns. Apparently - Cronkite accused Rove of setting it up.

Doesn't that seem like "disinformation" to you? HMMMM???

If they didn't want it out, it would have been suppressed. Think about it. "National security" reasons or some crap. They would have just said: "We have another tape" and they wouldn't have disclosed it. There is another reason for this tape. I think they floated it to see if it would bounce Bush. Then, if so, make something out of it. If it's even real, that is.

4. They probably had it much earlier

just in case something came out like the missing explosives and they could use it to take the explosives off the front page. Like Cronkite says, it has Rove all over it.

5. Covering their tracks

I think they had it, sat on it and then leaked it to Al Jazeera. I think they were saving it for an emergency. Because it could blow up in their faces I don't think they would have released it unless they were desperate.

the OBL tape was perfectly timed to help a desperate Bush win the election.

This story about "not wanting it to be shown" is part of the lie.

It's what they always do, they concoct a whole story about a story. They're very good at it. People STILL don't question it! Which AMAZES ME. Remember the president's sneak flight to Baghdad last year? Where they made up the story about the British Airways jet spotting them and asking for id and how they fooled them? Turned out it was PURE BULLSHIT, pure fiction.

This is the same thing. The story about the story.
