When Bill won, repubs went into Hyper Evil Revenge Mode....
...and you can be sure they'll do it to John Kerry too. i'm sure they're already drawing up impeachment papers with the reasons left blank and waiting for the fishing expedition.

when daddybush lost to Bill Clinton, i knew they'd do nothing but throw shit and mud at him and bring the nation to it's knees with revenge and grief and they did for eight solid years. all the while osama was sneaking up on us, they were otherwise occupied with revenge against Bill.

and that's why i'm generally pessimistic about the nation and it's immediate future. even if our guy gets the office, they'll give him holy hell every minute of the day for four years. i hope John is a man who can take it, and give it back and still operate cause he'd better brace himself.

they, the neoconazis, will still be there, and they'll be really pissed that we've interrupted their global dominion cult. and like the nazi cult they've evolved from, they have their millions of devotees, ready and waiting to do whatever they are ordered by their beloved, messianic leader to do.

that's why i'm afraid this halloween, and this election. they have a great cult power that can explode into chaos at any second, taking us all into hell with them, jim jones style.

1. True, but now WE are organized, angry, and prepared to fight back
and we're going to give them hell for hell, and win back Congress in 2006.

13. exactly ... we were
so relieved to have won the White House after 12 years in the wilderness that WE dropped the ball. WE did not keep fighting. WE sat back and relaxed. But no more and not ever again.

We must be ever vigilant against repukes because they are lower than snake shit and will do ANYTHING to undermine us and get power. We learned a hard lesson in the Clinton years and through the 2000 theft but we are not going to take it this time or ever again.

2. The GOP may be quite consumed by a battle of its' own for awhile.
If Bush loses, the neo-conservatives, fundamentalists and classic conservative/mainstream moderates are going to have a major brawl for future control and direction of their party. The neo-cons are going to get blamed for everything about Bush's loss and Iraq, so they will likely be forced out of the picture altogether. It's the fundies I'm most concerned about, however. Worst case scenario is that they claim full control over the GOP, setting us up for MANY nasty fights ahead.

We'll be much better off if the mainstream moderates reclaim and consolidate their power within the GOP, forcing Pat Robertson and the rest of the right-wing christian taliban to take their hatred elsewhere. Actually, they could start by forming a strong third party (American Christian Party?) that might very well serve the purpose of pushing the existing GOP to the middle, and the Dems further back to the left.

3. You're absolutely right, MoPaul
Expect another Richard Mellon Scaife to surface with another Arkansas Project. Now's a time to keep an eye on all conservative organizations. They have money and they know how to use it.

It would be helpful if on DU we could start listing the names of these organizations ahead of time.

4. I think the group in power now
is not what the old republican party was.
This group is fascist. We do need to keep a close eye on the extreme
in this bunch, really go after and expose the ideologues. We need to discredit everything they stand for.

5. Sounds to me like a good reason for Kerry to start up the prosecutions of
the war criminals, treasonous Plame exposers, and corporate energy crimes. For once, put them on the defensive and tie them up in knots so they are so busy defending themselves from REAL charges that they don't have time to manufacture fake charges.

.... which they HAD to kill to protect themselves, they've got NOTHING.

They'll bitch and accuse and try to make mountains out of molehills but they have shot their wad already - during Clinton's impeachment most Americans knew it was a sham.

I think you'll see a lot of media bullshit but no real official actions.

7. Another problem for the NeoCons...
Add four more years to their ages and most of the signers will be beyond 60 years old. They are going to have to have more than 4 years to develop the new leaders.

They can't be thinking Norm Coleman, can they? He would be in the mold of George Bush. If anyone could be shaped it would be him.

8. Hunting of the President
If you haven't seen it yet, you should. Especially important for those that are new to DU, or haven't been following what's really been going on in this country since Bill Clinton was first elected. These right-wing nutcases are pyscho.

Why so many rich and powerful Democrats on the hill are afraid to stand up to this group of thugs. They go right up to the edge of exposing and naming the neo-cons for what they are and then stop. None have banned together to get the word out and force media to put in front of the people.

10. "Hyper Evil Revenge Mode" is the norm for Republicans.
Expect them to continue. President Kerry's popularity will be the highest ever - even surpassing that of President Clinton - but the GOP will say he's too weak (as if duhbya isn't), and too "French" (as if it's a bad thing to speak to the leaders one of America's best allies in their own language), and of course they will invent various "scandals" for him to deal with.

11. After they stole it, they were still angry and paranoid
I remember an article about a GOPAC convention describing them as 'poor winners". It was all fire and brimstone - Clinton attacks, defunding the left and assorted paranoia. They can only define themselves in relation to whom they hate....

12. I'm not sure the country would stand for it this time
And even last time they couldn't remove BC from office because they knew they didn't have the popular support to do so. Does anyone remember the Elian Gonzales incident? Orrin Hatch and Trent Lott had gotten a little too carried away with the hunting of the president and were making noise about launching an investigation of the Clinton administration for sending Elian back with his dad. Once those two old frauds got a taste of the mood of the nation they shut up right quick.

It's true that they'll always be able to count on something like 30% of the population backing them up on any stunt no matter how criminal or ridiculous, but I think posters here are right when they say the past two administrations have taught Democrats that the rules have been changed -- and the way we have geared up for this current presidential campaign is proof that we are learning how to play. The Republicans had it all their own way during their persecution of Clinton; if they try it again they will find people ready to fight.

Furthermore, that large bloc of Americans who tend to ignore politics under normal circumstances do eventually come to an awareness when things have gone too far, as looking back on the 1770s, 1850s, 1930s, and 1960s will show. It's only been four years since the last Republican attempt to cripple a duly elected president; if they try it again so soon I think they will provoke a firestorm they do not expect.

History is chock full of examples of people who get a little too big for their britches and then get knocked down for it. The Republicans have no immunity. I think they have reached or are in the process of reaching the full crest of their insolence and hubris, and soon they are going to break.
