1. its spelled Belzer I believe |
|
I saw a video clip of the whole program minus the coulter part. Some other posters said that Belzer called her a facist party doll. :)
I was pretty pissed at Costner's antics. Trying to get out the vote for NADER! What an ass. And he kept talking over the General.
While Clark did a fine job he is not the type to get boisterous. He is an intellectual, and I wish he had more time to talk without Costner taking over the show and repeating the same crap over and over and over.
Belzer got some great shots in on Bush too. I kept yelling, "He gets it!" :)

3. Yeah, Belzer bitch-slapped her |
|
And General Clark devastated *, saying that 9/11 would've never happened if the Preznit had done is job beforehand, like introducing the DCI to the Secretary of Defense by saying, "please, no terrorist attacks".
Oh yeah, Kevin Costner was drunk, rhapsodized about Nader and all but took over the panel discussion.
Friedman was pretty good, too; he said Bush is OBL's most effective recruiting director.

4. I think Costner helped beat on Bush because he is a conservative |
|
and he is definately anti-Bush. If you listened to what he was saying. Yes, the nader crying gets old, but he is not voting for Bush. he believes in gun control, protecting the environment, boosting the economy etc. he is passionate about the PROCESS and thought Nader was dealt with poorly. Too bad his blinders did not allow him to see Nader taking money from Republicans.... but his point is..bush is bad for Republicans and I liked that message.

12. Passionate about the process? That's why he was "tired of Iraq and |
|
all that crap?" You actually spotted rational thought in that nushy brain? geez, maybe you can understand W too! When he called himself "conservative" and Belzer wanted details: fiscally or socially" - he lost it completely. he had as much of a message as W has: stay home, all it's too complicated, we are helpless and I need an aspirin"

Someone said last night that Costner has given money to Kerry's campaign, to Gore's campaign. He's probably "crying" because he doesn't see much happening.

how does it feel to be participating in a battleground state... campaign is really quiet down south of you - we feel completely impotent at this important juncture :-(

17. It's stressful. I'm doing what I can, but ... |
|
... I feel like I'm drowning in idiocy around here. I'd rather be back in my beloved SF Bay area. The incredible, rock-hard stupidity of people who spout Bushbot/Fox/Rush falsehoods is beyond description. I'm surrounded with people who're certain that Saddam was involved in 9/11, had WMD, that Bush is "honest and plain-spoken," that Kerry is a liar, that Fox is actually "fair and balanced" ... it's enough to drive me nuts. Thank Goddess I have some neighbors here who're with me with lawn signs, outreach, etc. Sadly, here in Knollenberg-land, we're in the minority it seems.

|
here in Indiana - at least personally I am surrounded by like-minded liberals in two cities. It is not the bay area (which I, too, miss greatly) - but at least I am not surrounded by the deaf dumb and blind political idiocy which is pretty strong in much of this state.

Belzer plays Det. John Munch, the role he invented on one of the greatest series ever on commercial broadcast TV, Homicide: Life on the Street.

If so, sign me up!!!! That man is a stand-up guy, no pun intended!
This was an excellent show. Poor Costner....weeping in his beer over St. Ralph. I wish he would weep a little more for those who are suffering in the wake of Nader's folly.

15. Wes Clark on Real Time With Bill Maher: 9/11 IS BUSH'S FAULT |
|
Edited on Sat Oct-30-04 11:21 AM by johnfunk
Via Americablog: If George Bush had done his job as Commander in Chief before 9/11 we would never have had the strikes of 9/11....
The guy that had the 9/10 mindset, that was George Bush. The guy who didn't want to listen to the threat of terrorism. The guy who never held a cabinet meeting. Why didn't he call his cabinet together and introduce the Attorney General to the Director of CIA and say, "Gentlemen I'd like you to meet each other, and please I don't want any terrorist attacks"?...
But if [Bush] wants to wear the uniform [as he did on the USS Abraham Lincoln], and take the glory of the men and women who are actually risking their lives in that flight suit, then he ought to understand what the command responsibility of being Commander in Chief is. When you wear that uniform -- especially in the United States Navy -- it's a one-strike-and-you're-out system. If you're the captain of the ship and it runs aground, they don't care whether you were on the bridge, eating lunch, asleep, chopping cedars in Texas -- they don't care! You're out! They only ask one question: "Were you the captain on the day it ran aground? You're out!"

16. Thomas Friedman on Real Time W Maher: BUSH IS BIN LADEN RECRUITING OFFICER |
|
Edited on Sat Oct-30-04 11:22 AM by johnfunk
Via Americablog: This is [bin Laden's] version of the October Surprise. It's the jack-in-the-box. We thought Bush was going to produce bin Laden, but instead Al Jazeera produced bin Laden....
[Bush has] been his, ah, a big recruiting officer for him, there is no question about it... everything that's happening in Iraq unfortunately has sort of energized the whole Islamist political movement.

Sticking up for the stick again. Belzer is right. She is nothing more than a party doll. Costner was just plain obnoxious. I used to like him but no more.
Way to go Belzer. You are the man!
On edit: Wes was good. He had enough class to ignore Bill's "I've had girlfriends longer than you've been a Democrat" remark. We know Bill, you had your girlfriend on last night.
Also, how many times did Bill shush the crowd & Belzer on behalf of his stick.

The only reason why people here are tearing into Nader is because the winner-take-all electoral system we have does not allow for third parties. We're fighting each other because the system makes us do it. It's time for a change in this thing. If we had IRV in all federal elections where there are more than two candidates running, I doubt there would be as much vitriol being spewed out on him than if there wouldn't because IRV would've made fragmenting the electorate irrelevant, since the next count of ballots would have simply been between Bush and Kerry if no one had won 50% of the vote in the first count of ballots.
It's not just Nader; it's any other third party out there. The only way we could ever possibly hope to dethrone the two-party system is through electoral reforms such as IRV and the abolition of the Electoral College. There are third parties out there that really do have some good ideas, but as long as we have such an electoral system, we'll always have to deal with this problem.
As a result, people will always be fearful of voting for any third party except the two incumbent ones for fear of causing unexpected results.

I'm much more in line with the Green Party. Kerry is a million times better than Bush but a progressive leftist would be much more in line with my beliefs.
