In the long list of criminal misamangement of this administration,
I would place their corruption of science at the very top.Our public posture on Darwin's Theory of Evolution is now controlled by knownothings like Falwell and Robertson.A sort of Reverse Darwinism may be at work that might help explain why all of them look like apes. Are Bush, Falwell and Robertson the first wave of reverse Darwins? Who knows?

This is the kind of idiotic rantings and ravings that have seized our talk and what is worse, has been allowed to corrupt our children's thinking as well.It is going to be clear within a decade that we will have our heads handed over to us in a platter by Chinese, Japanese and Indian students who have eagerly embraced the lessons of the Enlightenment to put logic, observation and facts as the basis for connecting with reality.

The mindless opposition to stem cell reserach is another one of these lunatic initiatives from the Religious Right that is going to hurt the chances of healing debilitating diseases like Alzheimer's,ALS,Parkinson's and others. If any effective drugs are developed from these researches, they may well be patented in INdia or China which would reap a bonanza of billions worldwide.

As our scietific culture is degraded, our best minds may very well pack up their bags and go abroad where the Cartesian view of the Universe is still respected. Our loss will become immeasurable.

Bush is fond of talking about his faith based presidency.Yes, one must have faith;but without human initiatives and actions based on reason, faith is an empty suit like Bush himself. As John Kerry so
eloquently put during one of the debates, "By their acts shall you know them".Acts based on knowledge and reason have been the basis of our greatness. We should not let ignoramuses behind Bush to dismantle the edifice built by some of the Western world's greatest thinkers from Galileo to Einstein.

1. In the case of stem cell research...
... many researchers are already heading for Europe, principally the UK.

We may be seeing, nationally, a kind of return to the Dark Ages--a time when superstition reigned, the pursuit of knowledge suppressed, and countries fell into feudalism.

The current obsession with millennial thinking, such the End Times, is an indication, as is the anti-intellectual tendency of the fundies and many on the right.

Bush might best represent the vanguard of that movement, in that he himself is uncurious, poorly educated and prone to make decisions on faith (or, his "gut") rather than reason. It's no wonder that he serves as a role model for those with similar values.
