If Bush gets in, I am afraid there might be an initiative to declare
that the U.S. is a Christian nation and that might very well be used to disenfrachise all other voters.A sort of a voter qualification system might even be introduced. The assault on our Constitution will be fierce and all initiatives that do not require a Constitutional Amendment will be attempted.

1. Declarations have already been made...
... the real issue is a change in law, which likely cannot survive a Constitutional challenge, even at the Supreme Court level, because of the establishment clause of the First Amendment.

Now, calls to modify or repeal the First Amendment would mean that the theocratic fascists might think they've consolidated enough power to effect that change. That's the time to worry.

Cheers.

3. On the way already. Did you see news that WH wants only DOJ able to sue
to enforce the voting rights set out in the Help America Vote Act, which was passed in the aftermath of the disputed 2000 election? We can't have just any ol American hiring a lawyer/advocate to protect themselves and their peers, now can we? :grr:

Here is an LBN thread you might wanna check out if you haven't already seen it:

Here is news story link:
http://www.mercurynews.com/mld/mercurynews/news/world/10045248.htm?1c

<snip> Since the civil rights era of the 1960s, individuals have gone to federal court to enforce their right to vote, often with the support of groups such as the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People, the AFL-CIO, the League of Women Voters and the state parties. And until now, the Justice Department and the Supreme Court had taken the view that individual voters could sue to enforce federal election law.

<snip> But in legal briefs filed in connection with cases in Ohio, Michigan and Florida, the administration's lawyers said the new law gives Attorney General John Ashcroft the exclusive power to bring lawsuits to enforce its provisions. These include a requirement that states provide ``uniform and non-discriminatory'' voting systems. They also must give provisional ballots to those who say they have registered but whose names do not appear on the rolls.*

*bold face, mine for emphasis. Looks to me like Bible-Belt-Johnny wants to be the one to decide whose complaints get action and whose get dropped in the garbage if/when there are cases to arise if voters are denied the right to provisional ballots in case of error or confusion on the voter rolls. I can't see many court cases for many liberals, considered to be outside the administration approved faiths, being well served by this bit of policy distortion. This is step one in "We decide what your rights are" and yes, if bush* wins, there will be more of this unAmerican usurpation of civil rights in store for us.

The Despoiling of America

How George W. Bush became the head of the new American Dominionist Church/State

By Katherine Yurica

With Editorial and Research Assistant Laurie Hall

February 11, 2004

The First Prince of the Theocratic States of America

It happened quietly, with barely a mention in the media. Only the Washington Post dutifully reported it.<1> And only Kevin Phillips saw its significance in his new book, American Dynasty.<2> On December 24, 2001, Pat Robertson resigned his position as President of the Christian Coalition.

Behind the scenes religious conservatives were abuzz with excitement. They believed Robertson had stepped down to allow the ascendance of the President of the United States of America to take his rightful place as the head of the true American Holy Christian Church.

Robertson’s act was symbolic, but it carried a secret and solemn revelation to the faithful. It was the signal that the Bush administration was a government under God that was led by an anointed President who would be the first regent in a dynasty of regents awaiting the return of Jesus to earth. The President would now be the minister through whom God would execute His will in the nation. George W. Bush accepted his scepter and his sword with humility, grace and a sense of exultation.

As Antonin Scalia, Associate Justice of the Supreme Court explained a few months later, the Bible teaches and Christians believe “… that government …derives its moral authority from God. Government is the ‘minister of God’ with powers to ‘revenge,’ to ‘execute wrath,’ including even wrath by the sword…”<3><snip>

5. ROME: Republic>>Empire>>Divine Emperor>>Holy Roman Emperor.
Apparently the administration of an empire requires a strong center--egocrat--from which all authority exudes. After the fall of the Roman Republic, the emperor assumed all authority unto himself; when even that was not sufficient, the emperor assumed the role of a 'god,' thus making his authority absolute and unquestionable. When, in the long train of human events, even that became worrisome, it was determined that it wasn't necessary to feign divinity; all one had to do was CLAIM THAT ONE WAS THE DIVINE REGENT: Thus the Holy Roman Empire, cum Byzantium.
