2. Yes.
However, I can't even imagine 4 more years of Bush. A year ago the media was saying Bush was unbeatable. We've come along way since then and we're almost there. I'm canvasing for the first time tonight and I hate knocking on doors but I'm in Wisconsin and we have to swing this state.

But I am concerned that there will be some sort of terrorist attack as happened in Spain, especially in light of the bin Laden tape.

As far as the actual election, I've already voted so now it's just a matter of waiting to see what happens. No matter who wins, I hope it is decisive this time.

11. If Bush wins
It's up to us to make the next four years the worst four of his entire life. He'll wish he'd lost. So, either Kerry wins and we fend off Republican attacks for four (or eight) years, or Bush wins and we continue organizing, criticizing, creating powerful coalitions, and hosting mass demonstrations.

Yeah, I'm nervous...

In a thread yesterday, another poster (sorry I can't remember who it was) shared photos of his or her electronic vote. I don't know how well this would work on a grand scale, but if every voter did that there'd at least be some documented proof.

we had to convince an african-amercian solicitor at our door that bush was a dick - she was still undecided as of thurs night. she told us that every door she knocked at on our street told her the same thing: i'll buy some magazines if you promise to vote for kerry, because bush is a disaster. i heart my street.

this woman, from florida, putting her life back together with the help of a bevy of NW social agencies (that is an old story around here, believe me - women running as far away from florida as possible), didn't see the connection between liberalism & the services she was DIRECTLY dependent on.

she did after she left our door. but that, and finding out that one of my over-educated, POLISH-descent (sorry, but i assume that all poles will vote democrat, i have cleveland pole roots) architect co-workers is "more anti-kerry than pro-bush" (what does that even MEAN?)and will vote bush is incredibly discouraging & nerve-wracking.

I held my nose and voted for Kerry knowing that, even if he wins, things will improve only marginally. Especially in Iraq. But, the prospect of another 4 years of neo-fascism under the Bush regime has me thinking about the possibility of emigration to a civilized country that uses it's brains instead of it's muscle.

Yep, sure am nervous! I feel very confident that Kerry will get more votes but also equally confident that Shrub won't give up the White House. Brace yourselves to see his smirking face saying once again..."Lost Florida? I don't believe it! We'll see after Diebold counts again!" If Kerry wins by such a landslide that even Diebold can't hide the fact, then we will hear "The nation just can't stand the stress of counting votes...we are going to ask the Supremes to stop the counting, for the good of the nation!" This crowd won't go away even if they do lose, they lost in 2000.

31. Not so much nervous, but EXCITED
I am nervous to see how things will play out because the GOP has become insanely desperate the last few days, but I am very reassured by all the things we have done to stop them already. We've challenged their cheating, we've uncovered their suppression plans, and we're ready for whatever they have to throw at us on Tuesday. THIS TIME, WE'RE READY. We aren't just going to back down and take it when they try to cheat. Look at how many attempts we've stopped already!

I can literally feel a Kerry win in my bones, and I trust that it will happen. Kerry's never looked better, the voters are responding, the voters are prepared and informed, and we're ready to win. We're gonna do it because the country needs a change, and I know we'll all be very happy come November 3!

Don't worry - just turn that nervous energy into action, GOTV, GOTV, GOTV!!

The polls are all within their margin of error and so it is too close to call from there point of view.

I am hoping that there internal logic is flawed.

Since Bush's team will do anything to win, cheating is a real possibility. I hope we can catch and stop any criminal behavior.

35. YES! I live in Ga. and am surrounded by irrational Pubs!
I really have always tried to look at all candidates with an open mind. I wouldn't have a problem voting for local Pub if I believed he/she was really the better candidate, but the only other people I've met who feel that way are some of the Dean people I met when we were campaigning for HD during the primary. Pubs somply don't think at all! They won't try to check any facts, or even consider what they're hearing doesn't make sense!

The challengers at the polls scare me even though I don't think they're here in Ga. This kind of intimidation can scare people away from the polls.

If shrub wins this time, I don't think any Dem is going to support him at all, on anything! I'm afraid radicals on both sides might even start riots, and I don't want to see that in my country!

46. Only because
of the fact that they managed to steal the election in 2000 - and the incumbant always has the power and $$ behind him.

One thing we know: If Bush does not die before November 2, he DID steal the 2000 election just as we said - why? Because, according to records, all presidents ELECTED in years ending with 0 have died (from way back) or had terrible tragedies. So Tuesday we an hold our banners high when we say BUSH STOLE THE ELECTION. He was never elected.

Now if he dies, well, we were hood-winked! Oh well. LOL.

Hide and watch. News at 11 Wednesday?

55. Very. Very nervous.
It's not just the disenfranchisement of the newly registered and minority Dem voters.... it's the black boxes.

With the stroke of a key, all the votes can change sides.

If we had HONEST elections in this country, I have NO DOUBT IN MY MIND that Kerry would win by the biggest landslide in all American history. But we don't have honest elections, and it is by intentional design by people who are bought-off, or have no conscience.

I'm also afraid for the lives of the citizens of this country as the election results are announced: it already looks like (un)civil war.

This is a very very very dangerous time for our country, for our individual futures, and for the world.

You bet I'm nervous.

58. Hell yes- I'm a total wreck
I just can't get a sense of where this thing is headed- One minute I feel OK, the next I feel this dark cloud of doom. If I thought we had an honorable but inept opponent, I'd probably feel pretty good right now. But between my belief that they would do anything to win and are just total cheats and thieves and my lack of confidence in the intelligence of most voters, I'm nervous as hell.

I just want to win by a lot and get this over with before I get an ulcer.

Don't get me wrong. I have my moments of fretting. But I was practically falling apart at the same time in 2000, so I am struck by the fact that now, when the stakes are higher than ever, I'm not freaking out.

Maybe it's divine intervention.

I said before somewhere that there are (using a bit of a gross generalization) essentially four types of DUers

1. Blindly pessamistic DUers
2. Blindly optimistic DUers
3. Rationally skeptical DUers, who have some concerns over the outcome of the election, but for whom those concerns are tempered with (their best attempt at) reason, evidence, anlaysis, logic and thoughfullness
4. Rationally hopeful DUers, who feel a sense that this election will be ours, but for whom those feelings are tempered with (their best attempts at) reason, evidence, analysis, logic and thoughfullness.

I'm in the #3 group.

It's a mistake to misunderestimate the depths of depravity and deceit these fascists will resort to.

As I've said before, there's a cancer in the American body politic. That cancer has metastacized. We're going to need more than the possible excision of a single prominent tumore on Tuesday, even if it's successful which is not something I find 'in the bag' at all.

Reasoning it out is hard, though, when you simply don't have all the facts. On the one hand we have the numbers; on the other, they have fraud attempts and voting machines. We won't know until we know. Did Yogi Berra say that, too?

62. Election night party game ideas?
I know this is off topic, but although I've been reading DU for prolly four years now, evidently I haven't posted enough to warrant starting my very own thread. So....we're having an election night party with friends and I was wondering if anyone had any ideas for games we could play. So far all I can think of is guessing electoral votes and maybe some sort of trivia game.

Kerry is a really, **really** strong candidate. Knocks Dukakis and Gore (God love 'im) out of the water. Clinton was strong too, and he won.

I'm more and more impressed with Kerry. The guy is working his buns off and is making no false moves. He's staying up. He looks good, too. I know there's a huge chunk of America that has gone crazy lately, but most of us are sane. I firmly believe that. A strong Democrat is the best candidate, period.

I will have my trusty glass (uh, bottle) of wine at my side Tuesday night as I listen to the returns, but I am feeling GOOD.

I'm confident that we fought a much better fight this time, that we put our money where our mouths are, that in less strident times, this election wouldn't even be close...but,

Also fearful that, too many people are receptive to a simplistic, dumbed-down, tough guy image that also poses as Christian. Fearful that our electoral process was hijacked once and apparently not much has changed in four years.

As Yogi (Berra) said,"It ain't over till it's over" and all I can do is hit the streets, make my calls, donate again, and pray. God Bless America.

There is no doubt that this election will be a debacle that will have historians scratching their heads over for decades.

To everyone who is optimistic about a Kerry win, I applaud you for your unfaltering optimism and realistic thinking. 4 years of the Bush administration, though, has convinced me that reality doesn't matter much to those who care to assert total control over America. The rules of engagement change at the whim of the rulers.

112. No. Thanks to minor heroes
At the beginning of the year I was resigned to four more years. Then I heard Howard Dean and thought, "There's a man who's articulate and unafraid". He lost, but Kerry came on. Early on he said something like "I don't need to be lectured on courage by a person like Tom DeLay". Hmm, I thought, we're punching back.

Heroes like those who fought for Howard Dean, John Kerry and the others kept this alive while shirkers like me slunk off in the shadows. Well, I'm on board now, doing things I never did before, contributing money and time. You did it and I salute you.

We win. America wins.

I believe in my heart that our side will win but there's so much riding on the outcome that I'm worried sick that enough people will support the liars in the White House despite all the evidence against them.

It's beyond me how so many people still believe Dubya is strong on terrorism after the missing explosives, the failure to kill/capture Bin Laden, the numerous terrorist attacks against allies like Spain, etc etc.

I'd feel much more comfortable about Tuesday is there weren't so many "sheep" in America that are willing to follow Bush into Hell.

Nervous? Not at all. I trusted the 2000 election wouldn't be stolen and look how well that turned out. Hoping and wishful thinking while voting against Bush will guarantee this election will not be stolen! Since the problems that caused the 2000 hijack were not addressed, but worsened by the help America vote act (if you have Bush helping you vote then you're setting yourself up) it wouldn't suprise me one bit if Bush "won" the election.

Edited on Sun Oct-31-04 08:57 PM by davsand
I've been too busy to panic, but every election is like this. We put out over 15,000 pieces of campaign mail out for delivery either this weekend or Monday. That coupled with Trick or Treat with our kid and walking precincts (and yes, we did combine the two!)has pretty well eaten into free time.

Election day I'm working in my office all day because it is so durn busy right now. GOTV is well covered in my absence, so I'm trying not to fret about THAT.

For me, this is that last gasp and then I go into a sort of Zen mode. To be honest, beyond driving your voters to the polls and getting your voters out, there really is not a lot you CAN do at this point except wait it out.

I do think the Welbutrin and the Valium has helped a lot too...

Based on what I've been seeing in yards and hearing on doorsteps I smell a big shock for the GOP from the Presidency on down.

Peace to you all,

Laura
