Tomorrow's Halloween!

It's supposed to be a great fun time for kids, but US "adults" have managed to fuck up another perfectly good thing. Usually, it's one faction or another, now it's both.

Here in the south, the fundies still cry SATANISM! I heard this morning, that areas in the NW are moving it not to offend Wiccans...

IT'S AN OLD FRIKKING HOLIDAY GOD DAMN IT! THERE'S NO REAL MEANING TO IT ANYMORE OTHER THAN GIVING KIDS CANDY!

Damn, now, I'm going to have to eat all those Reese's Peanut Butter Cups by myself.

</end rant>

I lived in the south for a while - the more jewelry and make-up you wore, the more "Godly" you were. All about the $$$$.

3. Yeah, if they want candy
they should just go out and get a job instead of asking for handouts.

6. Here in SW Ohio we had Halloween tonight
instead of tomorrow, because tomorrow is Sunday (doncha know) and Sunday is for God. Halloween is Satanic and we can't have all those little ghosts and goblins begging for candy on Sunday, now can we?

I'm going to have to eat all those Butterfingers by myself, too.

24. Did they do it in Cinci, too?
Shrub's doing a big whoop-de-do at Great American Ballpark tomorrow, there were people sniffling about having to make a decision whether to go and adore His Highness or take their kids out for Beggars' Night. Gee, that's a tough call -- which pagan celebration will they partake in?

7. What a joke.
Isn't it amazing how seemingly (a'hem) normal adults can wreck something meant to be amusing for a kid. LOL

I mean, please, they surely took candy as kids... so I guess this means they'll be rotting in hell for it? And what? They want to protect their kids from rotting in hell, too?? All under the guise of God.

Interesting that they are sometimes the very same way about social programs that they, too, benefited from when they were young. But they can't possibly reach into those pockets and help find ways to fund what their children might potentially need, just because it goes against the word of God. Boneheads.

I bastardized your rant with my rant-ette, B_... but I'm with you... Hell, it's just Halloween . And crap, now I"m going to have to eat all the M&Ms by myself. ((will definitely need milk))

8. Your history classes
are sadly lacking in facts, which give rise to this kind of nonsense.

Halloween has nothing to do with 'Satan' or witches or goblins or anything else like that.

Mind you, it has nothing to do with kids going door to door and getting candy either. Sheesh.

The original slowly grew into the celebration for kids where, IMHO, it belongs. Lighten up.

12. here in south east north carolina we addressed it
by not addressing it all it was officially in the paper as unclear whether trick or treating would be sat or sun so my kids and i drove around our closest neighborhoods to make sure we did not miss it!

Well, we've always done it this way for the past 45 years or so. Check this out and tell me we aren't nutty in central Iowa.

19. Apparently it does have real meaning
if it's bending people out of shape like this. So it's OK to be "Satanic" as long as you don't do it on a Sunday?

20. little heathens
Some showed up at my door tonight and rang the bell, even though the porch light is NOT on! I was in my office and my partner was on the couch, but couldn't get his pants buttoned fast enough (he was relaxing!). I told him if one more rang the bell I would put up a sign that read: "Halloween is on SUNDAY! IF you are too religious to trick-or-treat tomorrow night, you shouldn't be out TONIGHT!" Only one more family tramped though my yard, but the could see me glaring through my office window (I have a blind slat open so I can catch the asshat who stole my Kerry sign), they moved on! :)

If this holiday is sacrilegious on Sunday, it is sacrilegious EVERY day! As a witch, I could care less what they think about my holiday, but I will sure as Hell not switch nights to convince them and disrespect my own holiday!

</end rant>

22. Sorry, but there is meaning to it besides the kids meaning
As a Wiccan, I find it an incredibly important Holy Day.

That said, the images of witch costumes do not offend me and the celerations of children on this Holy Day have nothing to do with my religion.

I'll give out candy and will be dressing as a pirate tomorrow. Later, I'll observe the religious significance in private.

23. I told all of the kids who came by tonight to come back on Sunday...
since that is Halloween. I will have candy for them then. It's not my fault their parents are religous nuts who sent them out tonight.
