I am expending EXTRAORDINARY amounts of time on DU behind this election.
Edited on Sat Oct-30-04 10:20 PM by are_we_united_yet
warning: marginally coherent rambling ahead.

My attention to DU was already out of control before the Presidential race got exciting. It is now much much worse.

I am tired, I am nervous, I really HATE this administration and I am really burned out (like that feeling you get after 12 cups of coffee) but I just can't stop perusing DU, looking for Kerry good news in every forum (but preferably in LBN), I just can't stop.

I need help.

I'm obsessed. Really. This is an absolute and intense obsession with this site. It is like cyber-crack. I just can't get enough.

Sorry for the rambling, but I know many DU'ers have experienced this feeling to varying degrees.

5. But I can't
I try but I can't. I just can't seem to get away from the computer. And when Skinner has the occasional glitch with the ISP, I got into full fledged panic mode (RED ALERT)

It used to be funny (in some ways it still is sort of comical).

But NOW it has turned into a full fledged obsession which is pretty troubling.

7. cyber-crack?
that is true.

sometimes when delete my cookies I don't log back in on here for a while, going radio silent for a few weeks or a few months.

it cuts down my time tremendously and I take more in that way

11. Cyber-crack
was about the best metaphor I could think of to evoke the addictive qualities of this site. Stimulating, intellectual, engaging, maddening, depressing, hilarious, sad, thought provoking and addictive all rolled up into one.

I'm doomed.

13. You're not alone!
I spend a couple of hours at DU in the morning before I have to get ready for work. I can hardly wait to get to work to log on & see what I've missed. At work I check as often as I can & still get my work done. (Can you believe the boss still wants me to take care of my tasks during the most critical election ever? The gall!) As soon as I'm home, I log on to catch up again. Later, I log on again or stay logged on during the evening. Sheesh! I've never spent so much time online.

My new DSL connection is really paying off, tho!!

Takes deep breath, steadies self.

15. I am also seriously addicted . . .
For a while I put the computer on standby. I really intended to stay away for a while.

But then the computer started calling to me again. I had to log on to see what new stories were being told from around the country.

Being in California, I haven't had the opportunity to go to any rallies or really feel a part of this except by logging in here.

18. That's the magic of the internets.
We all get hooked on DU, ready to email our points across the land, share our stories, vote in online polls, email our senators and reps, and sign petitions all for our candidate. We see and share the lies told by reporters and Bushco and are ready to rectify the situation immediately.

Don't feel bad about it. This is something Rove never anticipated, and doesn't consider yet. It's OUR October surprise. Rove has been euniched and doesn't even know how. Kerry will slide into home cause we've hit the double for him.

After the election, we can take a short breather, crow a bit then start holding Kerry's feet to the fire to undo all that Bush has done, plus put the bastards in jail for crimes against the nation.

Eat, drink and be merry and don't feel guilty about being hooked on DU.

17. Spend more time on the street!
I can't tell you how good it feels to be talking to somebody in a line, or across a counter feeling them out, and then hand them a Kerry/Edwards button. It's like I gave them 1,000,000 lottery tickets, at least they now have a chance!
