75% of al Quaida killed captured= 3 guys out of 4? |
|
I just heard one of the "Democratic strategists" hard up enough on their luck to show up on Fox, while surfing during MTP commercials, point this out.
Is this was Bush has meant whe he says we've gotten 75% of their leadership? Three guys? Three?

solid grasp on how big al Qaeda has become. It's just another talking point without any real basis in fact.

when your boss comes up and ask how much longer to finish the project you are on, and you say you are 90% finished, what does that mean?
total bullshit
the 10% left can take 1 week to several years

4. When you get this from a repub |
|
ALWAYS ASK: 75% OF HOW MANY?????
3 out of 4? 7.5 out of 10? 75 out of 100? 750 out of 1000?
plus, when they use that fake percentage, it's only of the "known" leadership...god knows how many "unknown" leaders there are....probably one for every ton of missing ammo from al qaaqa....

8. an exercise in new math.... |
|
Edited on Sun Oct-31-04 10:34 AM by mike_c
Let's say you think there are 1000 gen-u-wine al-Qaeda members worldwide. Multiply that number by a fear coefficient of 100 to raise the terra level to code orange. Then murder 100,000 Iraqis and multiply that number by a unit terra-ist conversion factor. Discount by an arbitrary 25 percent uncertainty of al-Qaeda membership coefficient (why not?). Voila! Three out of four al-Qaeda members killed!
It's fun and it's easy! We're safer already!

they killed or captured 75% of the known leadership that wa sin place on 9-11. What that ignores is...
--it doesn't count those unknown, who may or may not be still active.
-- it doesn't count REPLACEMENTS. Saying 75% of the leadership is gone is like trying to say the is no longer a Boston Red Sox team because all of the players from 1986 are retired.

17. This is an example of deceit and deception in the use of numbers. |
|
An intellectually honest person doesn't use percentages unless and until the populations being described exceed 100 or more. Using numbers (percentages) whose scale is 100 to describe something of far smaller scale is overtly deceitful, inviting the inference of larger populations. This was not accidental in Smirk's reply! This is a shop-worn technique of deliberate propagandists.
The (purported) 'fact' is that intelligence estimates that maybe 3/4 of the original al Qaeda leadership, numbering about 20-24 people, have been killed. It's a guess on top of a guess.
