New offer on Bin Laden

Minister makes secret trip to offer trial in third country

Rory McCarthy in Islamabad
Wednesday October 17, 2001
The Guardian

A senior Taliban minister has offered a last-minute deal to hand over Osama bin Laden during a secret visit to Islamabad, senior sources in Pakistan told the Guardian last night.
For the first time, the Taliban offered to hand over Bin Laden for trial in a country other than the US without asking to see evidence first in return for a halt to the bombing, a source close to Pakistan's military leadership said.

But US officials appear to have dismissed the proposal and are instead hoping to engineer a split within the Taliban leadership.

The offer was brought by Mullah Wakil Ahmed Muttawakil, the Taliban foreign minister and a man who is often regarded as a more moderate figure in the regime.

2. This is where the Busholini regime made their predation obvious.

There is and was no question that the correct course of action was to force the Taliban to hand over Osama for trial. The threat of military force should have been limited to achieving exactly this outcome. This is and was the model of 'law-abiding' behavior that the US must affirm. It is only during such times that such ethical behavior shows real courage. The abdication of international standards of law and civil relation between nations showed the US for the cowards and bushwhackers we are under the Busholini Regime. Our behavior has been totally reprehensible, eroding international standards for decades to come.

5. I remember
when this whole thing went down.
They were 'horny for war' and nothing would dissuade them.
They wanted war far more than they wanted Osama.

3. And It Barely Masks This Additional Point
It presumes that the Taliban COULD turn over Bin Ladin. That means that they felt that it was no problem to capture him because there is no way he was going to turn himself in to the Taliban simply to then be surrendered to the Americans. So if they felt they could get him whenever they wanted him why has Bush, with what we are told by virtue of our SuperPower status an invincible military is utter control of the country, been unable to find him? It does not do to give the excuse that he is now hiding somewhere on the lands of our ally Pakistan, that in itself another tragic display of failed Bush diplomacy, policy, and use of military power.

4. Maybe if they changed their name to Guardian Angel, fundies would read it
Unfortunately, those who read the Guardian are already aware of the manipulations of bush vis-a-vis Osama and the Taliban. The zombie base which supports bush is wholly incapable of wrapping their little minds around anything which disputes the fearsome omniscience of their (mis)leader.

6. the story was covered here but
was not given much attention.
Not many questioned invading Afghanistan, however nothing Bush and these people do is straight up.
