I don't get this "logic" from McCain (on Schieffer)

He still says we should have had more troops for the Iraq invasion, and in the next breath claims the "spectular success in the first stages surprised everybody..."
Am I nuts, or is he?

...the fact that it took only a couple of weeks to defeat the "official" army. I wonder what he has to say about the stage we're in now?
