How will a Bush loss affect "Christian" faith?
NOTE: I do not mean all Christians, but the hardcore, right-wing, fundamentalists who claim to be "Christians" but are really just using Jesus and Christianity as a front for their hatred and extreme political agenda.

I have nothing but respect for true Christians who walk their talk and adhere to the real teachings of Jesus and his message of tolerance, love and service.

Back to the Bush supporting fundamentalists, will they feel their "God" has failed them? Will they question their "faith?" or will they regroup and come back even more fiercely committed to ridding this country of Democrats, Liberals, Athiests, Homesexuals et al.?

1. It'll bring more people to it
When it moves a bit to the left, in response to the turning tide of the nation, the young will be less likely to reject it, thus becoming a larger and more permanent part of it.

Speaking as a defected Catholic, I think I know what I'm talking about.

49. I was in the Quarter/Marigny a few hours ago to do some filming but
I didn't notice any wacko fundies, though, I wasn't hanging out in front of the cathedral. Instead I was jamming with the street musicians on Royal St. by the A&P, and on over by the Joan D'Arc statue. The big party is going on right now on Frenchmen St. but I'm too tired and have school work to do... and AP photos to vandalize. :D

4. Find new guys...
(01-02-04) 11:12 PST NORFOLK, Va. (AP) -- Religious broadcaster Pat Robertson said Friday he believes God has told him President Bush will be re-elected in a "blowout" in November.

"I think George Bush is going to win in a walk," Robertson said on his "700 Club" program on the Virginia Beach-based Christian Broadcasting Network, which he founded. "I really believe I'm hearing from the Lord it's going to be like a blowout election in 2004. It's shaping up that way."

Robertson told viewers he spent several days in prayer at the end of 2003.

"The Lord has just blessed him," Robertson said of Bush. "I mean, he could make terrible mistakes and comes out of it. It doesn't make any difference what he does, good or bad, God picks him up because he's a man of prayer and God's blessing him."

Real Christians only start a war as a last resort. Real Christians don't sacrifice young people's lives for oil. Real Christians look out for the most needy in our society. Real Christians don't see greed as a virtue. Real Christians don't don't lie and allow torture. Real Christians do the exact opposite of everything Bush has done!

9. As a NON-supporting Bush Christian
I hope and pray that Bush loses or he is one of the worst examples of Christianity I have ever seen in may six decades of life.
I cannot speak for all of us "fundies" of course LOL, but I feel he has done more to hurt the cause of Christ in this world than satan himself almost!
For me personally, a loss by Bush will show that God is moving us back to a loving, caring, peaceful abiding America. A win would mean that the prince of this world (satan) still has strong control.
We will soon see, but no, I do not think either will affect the faith of the true Christian -- and I do not know any of the other kind.

38. I believe, as a Buddhist, that a loss by Bush would show that PEOPLE
are moving people back to a loving caring peaceful America.

Its not God who does it for us, its not Satan who does it to us.

WE do it. WE are totally responsible for what WE create. Our prayers prime the pump so to speak, but it is our actions that create the effect.

We choose to go with our Godly inspirations, or Divine, Or Buddha nature....or we choose to go with our baser instincts, dark side. Each moment is a choice, and a myriad of possibilities and choices exist in each moment. Each one leading to some kind of consequence. With wisdom we can think about what kinds of consequences we want to achieve.

We determine what we do as individuals, and that ripples and reflects out to influence society. The more individuals who walk the talk, as you seem to be doing, the more we create society.

There will probably be more bombings of Planned Parenthood clinics and they'll think that Kerry is the anti-christ. I doubt they'll question their "faith". Even though Christ preached that we should have doubt about our actions, it isn't in their vocabulary.

1. "Christians" didn't work hard enough, so God has punished them by allowing a Democrat to be elected.

2. The "forces of evil" have triumphed, and it is up to every "Christian" to resist.

This is just the guess of one liberal Christian who has had some contact with fundamentalists.

The bible does actually say that, but these sorts of people always conveniently forget it when faced with a leader they don't like. So remind them of Romans 13:1-7, Hebrews 13:17, and 1 Peter 2:13, 14, 17. ;)

Bush has been the fundamentalist pope for the last few years, as the televangelists, Graham and son, the AFA, and the SBC leadership have all annointed him the messiah and receeded into the woodwork.

So they will all jockey for position. It'll be fun.

As to the rank and file, for a bunch of them, it will be a severe test of their faith. It will be really interesting to watch what happens to the more political congregations, but even more interesting to watch who evangelicals turn to in hope of regaining that magic throw-another-New-Yorker-on-the-barbeque feeling.

54. I am reminded of a scene in a movie
Edited on Mon Nov-01-04 04:40 AM by JellyBean1
Charlie Sheene in the movie Apocalypse Now; he has just assasinated 'Kurtz' and is walking back, through the crowd, and he spots the rocker from California, he then leads the LSD dazed rocker, by the hand, back to the boat and calls in the airstrike to completely obliterate all memories of that camp.

I think of the hardcore, right-wing, fundamentalists as being that rocker. But instead of being dazed by LSD, they are dazed from the hate and fear spoon fed to them by the wacko's and power crazed leaders currently in power. Hate and fear are very powerful, and can change people.

I think they will return to sanity as soon as the hate and fear are removed.

The nightmare will then be over.

They will redouble their efforts.

I have already heard the line.

"God called GW to be there for us on 9/11. He was such a prinicpled and faithful man that he sacrificed himself politically to "keep us safe".

They will simply make a christian martyr of the man and then hold us responsible for the execution.

I have already heard this from fundies on the tube. It is the classic pattern. "Blessed are those who suffer for richeousness sake." They will make a saint of the guy.
