"Kerry to Ban Footballs" - the word on the street from Ohio...
While riding in the car, my nephews (6 and 8) were cheering at the Bush signs in my neighborhood. They live in a rural Ohio and I would classify their parents as the religous right. My wife started booing the Bush signs and cheering the Kerry signs, which prompted them to ask both of us who we were voting for.

After we said Kerry, the youngest one said "But Kerry wants to ban footballs." in a serious tone. My wife explained that that was not the case. He then replied "Kerry is going to ban bows." (i.e. bows and arrows - my familiy likes to hunt deer with them). He said that that is what the guy on the radio said.

The 6 year old didn't beleive my wife at first as she explained that people on the radio often twiest the truth. The 8 year old chimed in in support that she wouldn't lie to him, but the guy on the radio might. I think he was convinced (as much as a six year old can be convinced...)

I'm sure that nobody really told the younger one that Kerry will ban footballs. But it goes to show that he has absorbed the lies he's heard and extrapolated it to other things. They go to a fire-and-brimstone church which no doubt explicitly endorses Bush. This probably account for some of it.

I thought is was funny... Not only does Kerry and the liberals in congress want to to X, Y, and Z. But they now want to ban footballs too!

1. Banning football and bows appeals to the very young
or incredibly stupid. The former can't vote, the latter probably wouldn't vote anyway.

2. OK
If Bush is elected wonder if they will have to say the Bush pledge along with the pledge of allegiance.

3. I hope that only 6 year olds believe that trash
the Repukes did a mass mailing to WV and AR saying that liberals would ban the Bible. Made the Dems around here hopping mad. I wrote a LTTE saying I hoped everyone knew that was a lie-and that they should consider what else the GOP was lying to them about. It was published. Hope it did some good.
