A little inspiration from Thomas Paine

- We have it in our power to begin the world over again.
Common Sense, 1776

-What we obtain too cheap, we esteem too lightly: it is dearness only that gives every thing its value.
The American Crisis, No. 1, December 19, 1776

-Those who expect to reap the blessings of freedom, must, like men, undergo the fatigues of supporting it.
The American Crisis, No. 4, September 11, 1777

-These are the times that try men's souls. The summer soldier and the sunshine patriot will, in this crisis, shrink from the service of his country; but he that stands it now, deserves the love and thanks of man and woman.
The American Crisis, No. 1, December 19, 1776

6. An incredible human being
I am reading John Keane's "Tom Paine" currently.

I love this quote from "The American Crisis":

"You are fighting for what you can never obtain, and we defending what we never mean to part with."
T. Paine

I encourage everyone to read Keane's biography of this remarkable patriot.

Human nature is not of itself vicious.

Government at its best is a necessary evil, and at its worst, an intolerant one

8. Every time I read stuff like this, I think: Bush* has probably never read
anything by Paine, Madison, Jefferson, etc.

Oh, he might have read the little blurbs in Reader's Digest or something, but honestly, do you think he has ever read Common Sense? The Federalist Papers?

I bet he has never even read the Gettysburg Address, and that's a tiny little document.

The idea is really quite breathtaking.

9. The one from September 11,
1777 is rather Nostradamus like. I love Thomas Paine. Thank you for this.
