I just came from the OCTOBER SURPRISE FILM FESTIVAL.
Edited on Sun Oct-31-04 10:50 PM by NightTrain
Today in Willimantic, CT, some friends of mine rented the local community center, where they ran six anti-Bush documentaries in what they hope to be the first in a series of film festivals with a progressive bent. These were the films they showed today:

1. HIJACKING CATASTROPHE: 9/11, FEAR, AND THE SELLING OF AMERICAN EMPIRE.

2. CONTROL ROOM (About al-Jazeera's coverage of the Iraq War.)

3. ORWELL ROLLS IN HIS GRAVE (A scathing indictment of America's corporate-owned, Bush-fearing "news" media.)

4. UNPRECEDENTED: THE 2000 PRESIDENTIAL ELECTION.

5. BUSH'S BRAIN: HOW KARL ROVE MADE GEORGE W. BUSH PRESIDENTIAL.

6. BUSH FAMILY FORTUNES: THE BEST DEMOCRACY MONEY CAN BUY (The latest documentary from Greg Palast, who follows the Bushes' money trail to Enron, the Bin Ladens, and beyond.)

I also purchased two of the books for sale at the fest: Amy Goodman's THE EXCEPTION TO THE RULERS, and a remarkable collection of photos called, 2/15: THE DAY THE WORLD SAID NO TO WAR. I'll post pictures from the latter book some time in the next couple of days.

Peace. Out!

4. HIJACKING CATASTROPHE was superior!
Possibly the best film of the bunch, and that's saying a lot.

6. Sounds good
I need to see this one too.
I live in CT too. But Enfield is kinda far from Willimantic.

Hopefully, it will be in Blockbuster soon
The Blockbuster up here has

Control room
Bush'Brain
Fog of war
Uncovered: The Whole Truth about the Iraq War
Outfoxed
Hunting of the president

I am surprised and happy to see so much out there

9. Damn, I wish I hadn't moved out of Conn. to NYC last year.
Though, this is really one of the only things that has bitten me in the ass (other than low rent, cheaper gas, well basically everything is cheaper in CT than NYC.) I really wish I could have been there. Keep up the good work and best of luck in future endeavors.
