How do we respond as a nation to 100,000 dead in Iraq? |
|
It may be debatable whether the number of Iraq dead is approaching 100,000. Never-the-less the number is out there and has been touched on in the mainstream media. What I mean by touched on, is a passing statement by CBS and ABC, that 100,000 have died since the U.S. invasion of Iraq. Really nothing more than that, just a statement. How can Dan Rather just toss it out there, without comment? If this number of dead is even close to correct, what are we doing ?
How do we explain/justify the death toll to the Iraq public, our allies, the American public and the world as an exceptable trade for liberation?

5. Capitlism at it's best |
|
"tens of millions of dollars in reconstruction funds may be spent on projects in Fallujah once the fighting stops. Marine lawyers are traveling with combat units, ready to handle compensation claims for battle damage" (an excerpt from the NY Times article).
Gee! That's really planning in advance. What do you think the going rate is for a six year old with no head?

12. Nice Idea, But Not Gonna Happen |

I don't disagree that waging a war of agression (sorry, i meant pre-emption), means having the blood of civilians on their hands. And, i can't disagree that such actions meet most of the definition of warcrimes. But, i don't see any of these guys in The Hague. Nice image. Not very likely, though. The Professor

10. As a nation? With shame and disgust. |
|
That those lives, however many thousands, were sacrificed for the ambitions of politicians and the greed of capitalists, should be a matter of shame that we, as a people, allowed it to go forward.
One day, even the powerful, will be obliged to face their crimes.
If Kerry wins, he should, immediately sign on to the ICC.

Can't wait until we "level Fallujah". When I told him this would further enrage Iraqis, he said we should just nuke the whole country. I asked who would be left to 'liberate' and he just muttered and walked away.
Half this country is completely fucking amoral. Fortunately, half this country knows good and goddamned well that the invasion of Iraq could be the basis for warcrimes.

13. Therein lies the problem..... |
|
This is the problem with WAR it dehumanizes, human’s. Those humans who are on the other side are counted as less than “WE” and this makes perfect sense. Why? Because how does a average young man from Ohio become a human killer overnight. Only one way, he needs to see and believe the human on the other end of his gun is unworthy, less than “WE”, some one who can be eliminated without real consequence. Otherwise how do you have a young lad for Ohio do your killing for you? War has to be the last resort, as it dehumanizes all who participate. That’s the crime.
