Is it really wrong to wish ill against someone? |
|
The someone I'm thinking about in this case is William Rehnquist.
Let's not pull any punches either. The guy is a vile old bigot. He was a defender of Plessy v. Ferguson, and as a lawyer, he would go to polling places in Arizona in an effort to disenfranchise as many black voters as possible.
Then, his master stroke was as a member of the felonious five who halted the vote counting in Florida and made George king.
Now he has thyroid cancer.
So is it wrong of me not to wish for his speedy recovery? Just because he's sick doesn't mean he suddenly turned into a good guy.

2. There may be a karmic penalty |
|
but I'm going to save my ill will for other, more long-term dangerous people so whatever bad karma I may incur will be worth it. Rehnquist has always been a nasty piece of work, but he is pretty old and probably would retire soon anyhow. I think I'll wish a bad case of psoriasis or crab lice on Scalia instead.

3. I don't wish people ill. |
|
I find I have no energy for that. I consider myself lucky.
OTOH, if I really felt I'd been personally victimised...well I don't know.

5. #1 - if he dies soon, Bush names the new justice |
|
so I hope he hangs on until Kerry is inaugurated.
#2 Wishing someone ill is harmful to yourself. Karmic retribution does happen.
#3 Think positive thoughts about a new, improved Supreme Court with Kerry appointees!

6. My first thought yes it is wrong. |

After thinking about what he has done my second thought was he is a nasty person but it's still wrong. Let's leave the judging to God.

7. Right or wrong, it'd likely hurt you more than him |
|
You're right, sickness doesn't make him a good guy, but wishing Rehnquist ill seems like jumping headlong into the sewer in the hopes that some of the sewage you're mired in will splash on him.

I prefer to be sure the person has suffered a lot for their crimes before they die, that way there's no doubt whatsoever that they paid for it. I won't say yay cancer, but if he died in horrible pain I'm not going to shed a tear.

12. the standard i believe in is: |
|
"minimum necessary force" ...
i wish those who oppose us in this war only as much bad will as is necessary to stop them from performing their evil ... no less, no more ...
the goal is not to have them suffer; it's to get them to stop ...
