Logical Reason Bill O'reilly settled his Lawsuit out of court....
Hear me out fellow DU'ers...
What reason would O'Rilley have for settling this out of court?
Logic would dictate that it was bad publicity for him and mostly
for his employer, Fox News and ergo Rupert Murdoch.
He probably got a call from Mr. Murdoch a week or so after this
story broke and he was most likely told to stop the bullshit
grandstanding and settle this as fast as possible.
Not only was this lady suing O'Rilley but Fox News as well and
during an election year at that. She was shining a large spot-light
that Fox News and Mr. Murdoch didn't want on them right now.
So it seems that O'Rilley was told to settle this, but not of his
own violation.
O'Rilley is nothing more than a puppet of Mr. Murdoch and ergo a
talking head for Fox News.
Sooner or later his deeds and mouth will write a check that his ass
can't cash.

4. O'Lielley settled
because the suit was bad for him personally as well as for FUX. I just love, love, love the fact that he's out there trying to shill his conduct manual for children while news of his felafel proclivities are floating around in media land.

Oh, and he also settled because he knows he did it and the plaintiff and her attorney(s) have the tapes to prove it.

6. He settled because there were tapes
and if he took the case to court those tapes would have been made public

That's why it was settled.

7. republican myth
It' rare to see someone settle a case simply to avoid lawyer's fees. The settlement is usually higher than the fees, and it appears to be an admission of guilt which gives a public figure (and his media mogul of an employer) as reason not to settle.

8. Don't get me wrong there.....
I believe that the Jackass is guilty as all hell too.
Just delving deeper into all of this.
That woman deserved more than what she got in my opinion.
She deserved to see his ass in jail because a woman should NEVER
have to put up with that sort of abuse...ever.
Thanks for your replies.
Take care.

9. He even said he "did something stupid" he was guilty as hell
There were tapes and if he had not settled there would not have been anyway for even the Freepers to say "he's just an innocent being condemned". Freepers make excuses for their own, but they're also leave the weak to save their own image. His career would have been over. At least this way he can keep his base.

14. She didn't settle for a lesser sum
Trust me, her attorneys (whose fee is based on a percentage of the settlement) would not leave any significant money on the table. They might have been able to squeeze a few more thousands out of Dild O'Reilly or Faux, but I'm sure they got the maximum settlement for the minimum cost. I don't think the parties had even exchanged significant discovery at the time of settlement, and no depositions had yet been taken. They could have spent another $100,000 on that and not gotten significantly more money than they settled for, I would be willing to bet.

15. Fox and Murdoch would have *crushed* her if she was lying
Edited on Mon Nov-01-04 07:36 PM by Monica_L
They would have spent millions upon millions more than that settlement cost to drag her through the mud if there was any. They would have probably debuted a new daily, half-hour show called "Mackris is a lying evil slut, and what's worse is she's a liberal" hosted by O'Reilly, natch.

What reason would he have to settle? The obvious one. He made those calls, she had the tapes, the tapes would be played at trial. Fox ponied up nada to the settlement, that came out of Dild O'Reilly's pocket because she had him dead to rights.

See, it's not so hard.
