Check out the post numbers if you think I'm a troll. Somebody on the "Taste of Home" message board of all places threw this number out there. Supposedly came from an Army Times poll. Anybody heard about this one? Seems pretty ridiculous to me.

7. I think this is the one we discussed earlier
It was a non-scientific mail in from officers.

Am I remember that right?

4. There was a poll a few months ago I remember
and the figure was something like that. Two things to consider:

1) I believe the poll was mainly of retired officers here in the US. They obviously have a different perspective than troops in the field or waiting to be deployed.

2) The Repuke candidate typically carries this group by 90%+, so even if the 82% is true, that represents a significant gain for Kerry.

Personally, I think it's BS.

9. From Army Times
Bush leads Democratic Sen. John Kerry 73 percent to 18 percent in the voluntary survey of 4,165 active-duty, National Guard and reserve subscribers to Army Times, Navy Times, Marine Corps Times and Air Force Times.

senior or older military types.

bogus all the way

To conduct the survey, Military Times e-mailed more than 31,000 subscribers Sept. 15. They were invited to access an Internet site seeking their opinions on the presidential race and related issues. From Sept. 21 to 28, and before the first presidential debate on Sept. 30, a total of 2,754 active-duty and 1,411 reserve and Guard members took part.

The nature of the survey led experts to caution against reading the results as representative of the military as a whole.

Unlike most public opinion polls, the Military Times survey did not randomly select those to question. Instead, subscribers with e-mail addresses on file were sent an invitation. That means there is no statistical margin of error for the survey — so it’s impossible to calculate how accurately the results reflect the views of Military Times readers.

The surveyed group is older, higher in rank and more career-oriented than the military as a whole. Junior enlisted troops in particular are underrepresented in the group that responded.

11. Considering the military enlisted had no secret ballots...
Edited on Mon Nov-01-04 07:46 PM by hlthe2b
but had to vote using the military private contractor(--who, of course had free communication with their predominantly Repug chain of command), and that Rumsfeld and others sat groups of troops down to discuss what THEY SHOULD VOTE for Bush*... and whatever other arm-twisting, this could be conceivable. But, I strongly suspect small numbers of respondents and probably nearly all officers.

19. I really am not worried about that number
Military for the most part usually support the president no matter who it is. Whats telling is that the number should be at least 95% from active duty. The real number that I see that Kerry is getting from retired military since they are the ones that can speak out freely without any consequences.
Support our troops Vote Kerry

I guess I could therefore say 100% of the National Guard I have polled are for Kerry. The GOP propaganda runs non-stop.

16. This is really sad. So many of them only know what they are spoon fed
by the military brass. It really is up to their families to give them the facts. But I guess they wouldn't be in the military if they didn't also glorify war.

17. A flawed survey, widely reported.
I've heard the results of this survey reported too often.

Although the split is likely more balanced, I would concede that more people in the military will vote for Bush than Kerry. It will take a while for that to change. But Bush's support has definitely dropped in the last 4 years.

But there are about 40 enlisted for every officer, and they get smaller Kool Aid rations.

21. I posted this before, and its bullshit
The actual poll was published by Newsweek. The figures had about one out of seven people respond who were e-mailed for the survey, and about 77% of those who responded said they were pro-Bush. That means that less than 10% of the people who were e-mailed said they supported Bush, but they spun the hell out of the results anyway. Read the fine print.

23. There's probably incredible pressure in the military that if you don't
vote for Chimpy, you're not being patriotic or loyal to the quack in chief during a time of war. That and freaking Rush is on the airwaves in Iraq 24/7 from what I've heard. Who knows.

Anyway, I highly doubt that the polls for bush are that high. 65-35 I would believe, or 60-40, but not 82-18. No friggin way. I've heard too many stories from families of those serving in Iraq to think support for bush is that high. Sheer propaganda that poll.
