Krugman is dead on (I loved the part about how he saw the genius in the Kerry health plan for catastrophic medical expenses), but whoever was debating him is a real old school conservative. I respect the fuck out of that, especially now that I know what happens when you let the lunatic fringe into office.
When you hear Bush speak about the economy, you hear blatant lies and get the impression that he's out to fuck you over, which he almost always is. This guy on Rose, however, was just as strong, if not stronger, than Krugman. I have a much better time listening to someone who makes a logically-valid economic case, rather than the hyperbole that tends to go on in the talking heads' attempts to get back to social wedge issues.
You listen to Ralph Reed, then you listen to this guy, and you wonder how in the fuck Republicans let this happen. They're killing America with their bullshit.
With certain conservatives, like this guy, you do get the impression that they do have the interests of the nation, and its economy, at heart. They want the United States to be strong, they want people to help themselves, and they want to do it all without any waste and a strong nod to fairness. You might not agree with their underlying assumptions, and in many cases I do not, but you do agree that they at least do think it will help the US. Not so anymore with most Republicans. They're out to search and destroy any vestiges of a Christian concern for the poor and minority rights.
If the RNC put more guys on the TV like him instead of the O'Reillys of the world, there is no doubt that the US would be a LOT more Republicans. They just seem, to me, to have no fucking common sense, they're just grabbing power to push their xeno- and homophobic agendas to distract from the raping of the less fortunate.
How I long for the days of the 'loyal opposition' in lieu of the 'enemy.' That was what made America so great, I firmly believe that. Now it's simply divisive garbage.
