I have lived in this country since 1987. I have seen it wage war on other countries, on its own people and on its own constitution. I have also seen its hopes and its dreams, being realized for many, not just a few. I have seen what cooperation, trust and love can do; I have seen what lies, deceit and ambition can do. I am sure that your party will woo me once I acquire U.S. citizenship. But, as I have stated, I have seen a lot in my brief time here. What bad I have seen happened during Republican administrations. What good I have seen happened during Democrat administrations.
In the last three and a half years, I have seen simultaneously the best and the worst. The best: people seem to finally understand the importance of a single vote, of the democratic process. The worst: soldiers, people whose self-sacrifice is beyond compare, are dying in a foreign territory, not for a just cause (as World War II certainly was) and definitely not for the reasons you and your administration so strongly stated before March 2003. They are dying for a lie and that, Mr. President, is unforgivable.
I am sure your staff will blame everything and everyone from Michael Moore to P. Diddy for your loss at the ballot box. Perhaps, instead of looking outside your circle of friends, you should look inside. When an administration is more concerned about the welfare of Saudi Arabia than it is of its own constituents, that is a reason for your loss. When you take advantage of the deaths of nearly 3000 people, both foreign and American, on September 11, 2001, and use this event to say that you protect us, you are being naive and you show your ignorance of the true essence of terrorism. People see through this.
I would like to thank you, however, for being a lightning rod, for attracting people together, Democrats, Republicans, independents, black, white, hispanic, asian, homosexuals, straights, men, women, the young, the old, to unite to vote you out. In a strange twist of irony, you have reclaimed the true democratic spirit that we thought was lost in the fog of the 2000 election.
I hope you will enjoy your time off and your lucrative speaking engagements. I look forward to once again seeing the best of the U.S. and its people with President Kerry and Vice President Edwards to guide us along for the ride.
