I just voted third party for President... |
|
I live in NY, and I pulled the lever for the Working Families Party candidates. I also voted the WFP line for NY Senator as well. I feel so good about myself for furthering diversity in democracy rather than just settling on the "lesser of two evils". :bounce:
And before you all jump all over me, the WFP candidates in both instances are also the Democratic nominees. NY allows fusion tickets, which allow you to support the more progressive agenda of the WFP while not playing the "spoiler" role.

7. Yeah, I figured everyone around here is pretty tweaked right now... |

... and if there would be an easy time to mess with them, it would be now.
Maybe not the most judicious time to mess with them, but an opportune time nonetheless. ;-)

And in case it wasn't clear enough, the purpose of my post was to get people's knickers in a knot. I'm wanting to see how many people unfamiliar with NY politics and the WFP actually read my post, or if they just post a knee-jerk response.

NY state allows political parties to cross-endorse candidates (fusion tickets). For instance, the Working Families Party is a party that promotes issues that affect working families above others. It tends to be much more progressive than the Democratic Party in NY, even if it usually endorses the Democratic candidate.
That way, you can vote for the Democratic candidate while simultaneously boosting the tally for the WFP, sending a message that you support progressive reform. :D

22. The fusion ballot should be ended |
|
I amost screwed up my ballot by marking my "vote once" on the one set of names i was voting for, that appeared in different columns.
If you colour in all the kerry/edwards ovals, you vote is void.
I think this is a flaw that throws out many ballots every year for overvoting, when in fact, the vote is for the same party.
I respect your choice of WFP, but its a long reach between supporting local party diversity and purposeful balloting obscurities.

29. Yes, i sent the ballot to vesey street |

The machines might be better, but the absentee ballot was ambiguous, IMO.
I'm glad the machines make it easier. I still think there should be no ambiguous listings of candidates, (fusion ticket), as it is merely electoral partisan footsie, and only serves to obscure, when parties have the same candidates for office. I would find it even more offensive, if the bush was listed twice and kerry once, as luck might land a vote more likely in the one who's name is more repeated on the ballot. As it stands, they're both listed twice, but then i'm miffed on behalf of those parties/candidates who are only listed once.
My voting district is downtown, and the ballot is straight dem.

I didn't understand that you were using an absentee ballot.
As a strong supporter of the two party system, I can sympathize with you. However, the WFP is doing an outstanding job, particularly for an organization that's only been around for a very few years. IMO, the WFP is doing what the Greens, Nader, and all the other third party enthusiasts should be doing, so I am reluctant to criticize them for that.

26. Socialist Workers Party candidates for pres on New York ballot |
|
are not even legitimate: one is immigrant without papers to be in the US, the other is 24, too young to be president.
It is always so much fun to vote in New York, to pull back the curtain and read the names of unknown candidates you have never heard of and wonder how they got there. Like the candidate from the Libertarian party, and the candidate from the Builders party. What's the Builders Party? You've never heard of him, Abraham Hirschfield, but there he ison your ballot, running for president from the Builders Party, and you can turn the tab and vote for him too if you want.
New York is quirky like that.

...that Ralph Nader has TWO DIFFERENT RUNNING MATES on the New York Ballot? I'm not making this up! :-)
On the Independance line, the Veep nominee is Jan D. Pierce.
On the Peace & Justice line, the Veep nominee is Peter M. Camejo.
:wtf:
Is it me, or is this simply MORE proof that Mr. Nader is trying to confuse the system more than it already is....?

33. I got a ballot copy in front of me... |
|
And nader's independence and peace and justice VP is Peter Miguel Camejo.
For everyone's clarity, the fusion ballot looks like: A. Republican - Bush/Cheney B. Democratic - Kerry/Edwards C. Independence - Nader/Camejo D. Conservative - Bush/Cheney E. Working Families - Kerry/Edwards F. Peace and Justice - Nader/Camejo G. Socialist Workers - Calero/Hawkins H. Libertarian - Badnarik/Campagna I. Write In
Notice how the same people are listed more than once... the ballot should, IMO, have 5 choices, with 1 choice for each candidate, not each party.
The Senator Race is even funnier, as Shumer is listed as democratic, independence and working families, but everyone else is only listed once.
