voting activity...
I live in a small town in semi-rural, southeastern Massachusetts...typically, on election day the place looks like Slumberland and it's mostly senior citizens who show up to vote. When my wife & I drove to our local Middle School to vote, the place was jammed, had to circle a few times to find parking...the entranceway was lined with signs for the candidates and it was interesting to note not one single Bush/Cheney sign in the whole lineup...only Kerry/Edwards...dunno what to make of it because I know there has been an active, visible Republican presence in the past and some support for Republican candidates...this is not a town that's had anything but pretty civil discourse around national politics so I doubt there's any fear factor involved...lots of younger voters out and about and that's another good sign...if nothing else it seems Dubya's antics (Ashcroft/Patriot Act, Iraq, Abu Ghraib, the environment, the deficit, tax cuts for the rich, along with Cheney's Halliburton sleaziness) have certainly brought out the voters like I've not seen before, and I've been around now for 60+ years...fingers crossed...
