Took my daughter to vote for the first time this morning...I'm so proud... |
|
Seemed like a rite of passage, along with getting her driver's license & graduating from high school.
There was an interesting scene at the polling place...election judge said people were waiting in the rain when they opened the doors....turnout much higher than last prez election...while we were there a badly disabled guy, on his feet but with a walker, came to vote, as did three minority moms with kids in tow....my daughter realized that voting is a struggle for a lot of people, but so important.
An awesome process, really.

All the stories on here have been incredible. I only hope (for the sake of your daughter especially) that they don't attempt to steal this one from us. I was so put off by the electoral process when I voted for the first time four years ago. Luckily, I found DU, and the healing process only took a few months. Thanks for sharing.

It really is a rite of passage, isn't it? My girls were both so proud to tell me the first time they voted. Of course, this year one of them is voting for Shrub but the other is a proud Dem. I love them both though I can't for the life of me understand how I managed to raise a Republican! Must be rebellion.

6. My 7 year old Grand daughter |
|
went into the booth with my wife whose polling place is in my Grand daughters school gym.
when my wife let her go at her classroom door she strutted into the room proudly and loudly announce to the whole class that SHE had just voted for John Kerry.

7. They ARE the HOPE of this Country |

Four years ago my oldest daughter (now 25) and I drove together to vote. Yes, I know it a WONDERFUL feeling. Makes a parent PROUD. This year she went in the car alone before she went to work.
My younger daughter (20), who is away at college, emailed me back in MARCH and asked me how she could register and request an absentee ballot. I searched it all online, sent it to her, and she completed all the forms and emailed them. Received her absentee ballot at school and mailed it in two weeks ago. And I might add, this TOOK A LOT OF EFFORT on HER part to complete this process away at school.
I think my daughter also summed up the feelings of her generation best when she said back in March, "Mom, this is OUR FUTURE on the line is this election and I will not sit by and do NOTHING ABOUT IT."
